NC-HCAPnews
a monthly update from the
NC Health Careers Access Program
at Chapel Hill

The Director's Corner
Last month, my comments highlighted Black History Month and the importance of recognizing pioneers in the health care professions.

On Wednesday, February 17, UNC and the higher education community lost a pioneer, Mr. Larry Keith.

Larry served as the assistant dean of admissions, associate director of the Office of Educational Development and director of special programs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine. He loved students, nurtured their talents, and advocated for minority student matriculation into medical and dental school programs across the country.

NC-HCAP would be remiss if we did not pay tribute to Larry. He was a wonderful man, great friend, and advocate for the underserved. We thank him for his unwavering commitment and for touching the lives of so many students, faculty, staff, and colleagues around the state. Many summers, Larry would have SEP and MED students sing the song "This Little Light of Mine, I'm Going to Let It Shine", symbolizing his belief that students should never give up on their dreams. His voice will live forever in that song and in the minds of hundreds of persons whose lives he touched. Thank You Larry.
