| The Director's Corner |
 As
Director, there is no greater pleasure than to
witness students accomplish their goal of being admitted into
graduate/health professional school. So you can imagine that the coming
months will be an extremely exciting time for us as students
receive acceptance letters to professional programs all over the
country. The
tasks that we perform in this arena should not be viewed as performing
work but
rather fulfilling a calling. Although we focus on the number of
students that
we aid in becoming educated, trained and employed in the health
professions,
I am reminded that we have also assisted students in
following other paths. That is okay
because ultimately, we are still growing an educated and diverse workforce. We,
as well as our NC-HCAP Centers, are fortunate to work with outstanding students
daily and are looking forward to regularly highlighting them and their
accomplishments through our e-newsletter. Research indicates that we
need to develop the health careers pipeline at a younger age. Continue reading
to become informed about our pre-college initiatives.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT: KEDRICK PERRY NC-HCAP helps Perry on his path to higher education
As
an undergraduate student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill, Kedrick Perry had his eye on the medical track. While searching
for a health-related student organization, he discovered NC-HCAP.
Through
his involvement with NC-HCAP, Perry realized his true calling was in an
educational and administrative capacity rather than as a physician. He
is now pursuing a doctorate in higher education with a minor in social
foundations in the Curry School of Education at the University of
Virginia.
Reflecting upon how his confidence in achieving
success in higher education has grown over the years, Perry recalls the
springboard NC-HCAP provided for him.
"NC-HCAP helped me realize
the direction my life's work was taking and supported me in my efforts
to pursue a Ph.D. in higher education," Perry said. "As I go through my
educational and career journey, I will always remember that it started
with NC-HCAP!" More
