FITNESS TIP OF THE MONTH: Heart Rate Training
Depending on your age, level of conditioning, and your fitness goals, you should train in a particular heart-rate zone. Beginners should try to elevate their heart rate to 50%-60% of their maximum while intermediates and advanced should shoot for 70%-85% of their max. The higher your heart rate, the more calories you will burn and the more fit you can become. To figure your maximum heart rate, simply subtract your age from 220. For example, if you're 30 years old, you would have a maximum heart rate of 190. To work at 70% of your maximum heart rate, you would shoot for a heart rate of approximately 133 beats per minute (0.7 x 190). You can also count bpm (beats per minute) in 10-second increments and then multiply by six.

AGUA BELLA FEATURED INSTRUCTOR: Natasha
There are rare individuals in every field of endeavor. In the realm of the health and fitness world, Natasha Teran is one of those rare individuals. Having started teaching exercise and fitness classes at sixteen, Miss Teran has over twenty years of accumulated experience. She is a natural teacher. Teacher is what happens even when she is not in the classroom, so it is important that there are many classrooms. Natasha can fill them all with the power of her positive energy and the champagne-like effect of her passion.
Natasha's background began in exercise fitness. She has taught aerobics, weight training, dance and yoga. She has eight years as a professional tap dancer, having performed over (two thousand?) live shows. She teaches tap classes at Costa Verde on Monday evenings. To watch Natasha tap is a transformative experience. In the world of yoga, too, Natasha shines brightly. She is a certified Bikram Yoga Instructor; she has studied Ashtanga Yoga with Tim Miller and she has been invited to teach at his studio. In high demand and highly recognized every where she goes, Natasha's gifts as a teacher can be summarized in three ways.
Natasha cares deeply about each and every one of her students. She cares so much, students follow her to Leucadia, La Jolla, Pacific Beach and Coronado. One student comes all the way from Julian, California to be a part of her classes. In addition to her compassion and care for her students, Natasha Teran has a working knowledge of the body that makes parents and students all feel very safe. They know they are in the hands of someone who has awareness of the body and how it works and, especially, how to avoid, or protect oneself from injuries. On top of these, Natasha has a practice and commitment to yoga that transcends all but the very few. Nobody works as diligently as she does in their own practice, and it is this inner drive that makes those of us who know her keep coming back.
People of all levels come to her classes and she is gentle and affectionate with each one. She takes time to help give detailed tips to help each one of her students improve and progress. And, as she gets to know her student, she makes sure to push each to his furthest potential. She has a flare and a spice and effervescence to her personality that is quite fun, fantastic and enchanting; at the same time being serious and motivating. Just don't let her catch you sleeping!
