April 2011

The "7th Annual Abby's Closet Prom Gown Giveaway, held April 2-3, 2011, was a huge success!  The total number of high school women who received FREE formal gowns this year is (drum roll, please) ....

2,224

Girl in Brown Dress

We know that each young woman who came to the giveaway event will feel confident and look beautiful on her prom night.

If you received a gown from Abby's Closet, we hope you will share pictures on our FACEBOOK page.  Have a great time at prom!

Thanks to everyone for helping young women's prom dreams come true!

"7th ANNUAL PROM GOWN GIVEAWAY"

The gowns (all 7,200 of them) that filled the racks were colorful and beautiful. The 1,774 young women who attended the event from 190 high schools were excited and enthusiastic (even though many had to wait hours before entering the boutique).  The 275 volunteers were extremely helpful and simply amazing!  During the 14 hours of the event, 1,774 gowns were given away (the rest were given away at private events for Rose Festival Princess candidates, students from the Oregon School for the Deaf and others).

This event would not happen without the support of individuals who willingly donate of their time, talent and treasury.  The local businesses who supported us by acting as donation drop-off sites and providing numerous services and donations also contributed to the success of this event. Please go to the LIST ON OUR WEBSITE and be sure to frequent these businesses (and tell them "thank you" ).

FIRST STUDENTS IN LINE

The first students in line, who had the honor of cutting the pink ribbon to open up this year's giveaway event, were MADISEN, KHOURI and KAILEE ARNOLD from Dayton High.

Paul Mitchell

Thank you to the wonderful volunteers from Paul Mitchell who provided hair styles and makeup.  This was a huge hit!

While waiting in line, they wrote the lyrics to a song that they sang to us before cutting the ribbon.  We loved it!!  Here are the words (sing to the tune of "We Will Rock You"):

Her mama had a plan
After Abby moved away
Deciding what to do with her gowns some day
Dress after dress, accessories galore
She decides to open up Abby's Closet's doors
Singing "We will - we will help you"

Donations poured in from town to town
Everywhere you look, there's a dress to be found
Any dress you want, color, shape and size
You might even get a great free prize
Singing "We will - we will help you"

So come on all you girls - let's have some fun
Try on a prom dress - we'll help find you The One
Gonna feel like Cinderella on the way to the PROM
And this all started with a plan from Abby's mom
Singing "We will - we will help you"
