Happy New Year!
As we move into the new year, Abby's Closet is gearing up for its "7th Annual Prom Gown Giveaway" on April 2-3, 2011 at the DoubleTree Hotel Exhibit Hall-Lloyd Center. Over 2,500 high school women are expected to attend this year's event to receive a free formal gown.
Abby's Closet is an all-volunteer organization and relies on the community to fulfill its mission. Your donations help to ensure every young woman finds the dress of her dreams. Especially needed right now are formal gowns and cash donations to purchase gowns in needed sizes. One easy way to help is to forward this email on to your family and friends.
We feel strongly that every girl should have the opportunity to attend and feel beautiful at her prom. Events like prom are very meaningful and memorable in the life of a high school girl, and attending events like these with a positive self-image is a stepping-stone to developing the confidence to pursue her goals in the future. |

It's Time to Clean Out Your Closet
Give your beautiful formal gown another chance to dance. If you have a formal gown you won't be wearing again, please consider donating it to Abby's Closet. Gowns (prom, bridesmaid, special occasion) should be clean, in good repair and appropriate for a high school student to wear to prom. Especially needed are gowns in sizes 0-4 and 16 and above.
We also accept donations of formal wraps and purses. All donations are tax deductible and can be taken to one of the 37 DONATION DROP-OFF SITES listed on our website.
Don't have a formal gown to donate? Consider making a cash donation (see PayPal link to the left). A donation of even $25 will send a young woman to prom in a beautiful gown. |

Giveaway Events
Over 300 volunteers will be needed to help at this year's giveaway event on April 2-3 (and set-up on Thurs., Mar. 31). Mark the dates on your calendar and plan to volunteer. Sign-ups will begin in mid- March. Look for an email newsletter to let you know they have started.
Have you volunteered at the giveaway event? Abby's Closet is hosting a few private giveaway events at our offices (near Bridgeport Village Mall) and need experienced "Personal Shoppers" to help. If you are female, out of high school and have worked at the giveaway event, please volunteer on one of these dates: Sat., 1/29 (10am-12pm); Wed., 2/9 (6:30pm-8:30pm); Sat., 2/12 (10am-12pm; 1pm-4pm); Wed., 2/16 (5pm-8pm). | MEET THE 2011 STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD | |
We are very proud and excited to introduce this year's STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD. They are a very talented and dedicated group of high school women who are hard at work promoting the mission of Abby's Closet. Each Board member is organizing a dress donation drive at her school (if you would like to help, please contact her). They are also planning some fundraising events (more to come on this), and recently recorded Public Service Annoucements that will play on many local radio stations. The group is led by Advisors, Liz Orr and Abby Egland. If you would like to apply to be on next year's Board, look for further information in the Spring.

Congrats to the following women who were selected as this year's Student Advisory Board: Emily Rose Wiitala (Central Catholic), Emily McNabb (West Linn), Christina Gill (Jesuit), Maddie Polak (Lakeridge), Eva Almgren-Friedman (Woodrow Wilson), Danni Metke (Lakeridge), Christina Arrington (David Douglas), Laura Aguon (Gresham), Daryn Daniels (Tigard), Nikki Phetmany (David Douglas), Gabriela Saldana (David Douglas), Sophie Magee (Sunset), Hannah Fouquette Jansson (David Douglas). |
