June 2010
An Amazing Stat

Abby's Closet is very proud of the fact that we reduced our expenses this year by 42% while the number of high school students we served increased by 17%.

We believe this is a statistic that few nonprofits can claim.  To find out how we did it, read below ....

We hope you will continue to support Abby's Closet's mission to help young women's prom dreams come true.
AN AMAZING STAT!  HOW DID WE DO IT?

Generous Donations Help Reduce Our Budget

Thank you to the many generous businesses and individuals who donated services or provided in-kind donations.

We would like to highlight the donation of storage and office space by PAC TRUST REALTY, as well as  some very thrifty and creative volunteers.

Through these efforts, Abby's Closet was able to reduce its budget by 42%, while helping 17% more students this year. This is quite an amazing feat and demonstrates the organization's fiscal responsibility.

Our current budget is only $14,000. If you would like to help reduce our budget even further, let us know if you would be willing to donate any of the following:
  • Sponsor the giveaway event (we'll put your name on our banner and in our advertising) - Budget Amount = $4,000
  • Sponsor the "Sneak Peek" event, held the evening before the opening of the giveaway event (we'll put your name on our invitations) - Budget Amount = $1,000
  • Provide envelopes, paper, printer ink and labels needed for packets mailed to schools- Budget Amount = $375
  • Mail envelopes with Abby's Closet flyers and posters to approximately 214 high schools (you pay the postage) - Budget Amount = $350
  • Supply pipe and drape for the giveaway event - Budget Amount = $1,000
  • Provide funding to purchase liability insurance - Budget Amount = $1,300
  • Supply tagging guns and fasteners used for size tags on gowns - Budget Amount = $260.
  • Supply tall wardrobe moving boxes - Budget Amount = $230
  • Pay the entry fee for Abby's Closet to have a booth at the Susan B. Komen "Race for the Cure" Health Fair in Sept. - Budget Amount = $300 (for a half booth)
Of course, CASH DONATIONS are very much welcomed and needed. Please consider donating to Abby's Closet so it can continue its mission to help young women's prom dreams come true.
"7th Annual Prom Gown Giveaway"

We have already booked the dates for next year's Prom Gown Giveaway event.  It will be April 2-3, 2011 at the DoubleTree Perfect DressHotel Exhibit Hall-Lloyd Center.  Please let the Prom Committee at your high school know about these dates, so they keep it under consideration when selecting the date of next year's prom.

We compiled a 9 min. video of highlights from this year's Prom Gown Giveaway.  To view it, CLICK HERE.

table decorations were amazing, the finger sandwiches and sweets, along with the tea, were outstanding, the silent auction items and raffle prizes were fantastic, but best of all, we had a ton of fun and made a profit of over $4,000.

"Prom Prance" Fun Run

The first-ever "Prom Prance" Fun Run was a success.  Everyone had a great time and we raised lots of money for Abby's Closet.  Thanks to the Student Advisory Board for organizing this event.

Eric Egland (Abby's Dad) won the "Prom Prance Queen" sash for raising the most money.  Honorable Mention for "Best Outfit" went to Andy Wallace.  We loved seeing him in the replica of the infamous Bjork swan gown. The total amount raised was $2,000.

Thanks to everyone who attended and supported our recent fundraisers.  To view photos from these events, go to the Abby's Closet FACEBOOK FAN PAGE.

Service Work Study program (the school paid 100% of the student's wages).  We were thrilled to have Junior student, Elissa Norton, help us.

Elissa's wonderful personality, positive attitude, team player skills, strong work ethic and commitment to Abby's Closet impressed us all.  We thank her for and all she did to help us and thank the University of Portland for sponsoring this program that benefits local nonprofits.
STUDENT ADVISORY BOARD APPLICATIONS
High School Students Invited to Join

Would you like to volunteer to join the high school Student Advisory Board (SAB)?

If so, further information and applications can be found on our WEBSITE.  These young women, from local high schools, work in conjunction with the Abby's Closet Board of Directors and help by conducting dress donation drives, fundraising, assisting with PR in their schools and community, etc.  This year's SAB was fantastic.  Thanks to them for their dedication and commitment to helping Abby's Closet.
