Greetings!

So I had one of my fellow grad school friends come to see My Son Pinocchio this last weekend. My family lives out of state, so it's a rare treat for me to have personal friends attend the shows I direct. After the first act, she peppered me with questions, not about the show (which she is also directing next year) but about CYT- "How do you make your costumes?" "How many kids are IN this show?" "Where do you get the sets?" She facebooked me and described the show as "lavish". Her astounded response reminded me how blessed I really am to be able to direct these kind of shows. I ask for something- and *BAM* the parents make it appear on stage! And I know it's the same in every area! The costumes, sets, props, lights, sound, house, marketing and all the other committees that are so lovingly run by our parents make CYT productions like NOTHING else anywhere. So thank you to all our parents for helping us create big, beautiful and incredible shows. We couldn't do it without you! You help us make theater magic, and do it for the Lord. On behalf of the CYT directors and your kids, Thank you.

Jessica Shor, CYT student, shares with The Point the opportunities she and the Northwest Cook casts had taken to serve others.

Jess and some of the "little dresses" for African girls

"We started working with Feed my Starving Children. We'd gather up a group of cast members, drive to Aurora, and pack as much food as we could for starving kids that would nurse them back to health. Then we did Operation Christmas Child with the sibling groups. They packed boxes of toys, crayons, markers and other gifts for kids in need. That Christmas we sent off 20 boxes. The largest project we've done was during Fiddler on the Roof with Little Dresses for Africa. I read that their mission was to send little girls hope and let them know they are loved. The website also said that girls who owned a dress were more respected and card for better. We took a simple pattern, or used pillow cases to make dresses. It only cost $5 per dress. There were SO many donations of money, fabric and pillowcases that we just finished the last of 150 dresses. At my house, we had three sewing parties where were created the dresses and even taught some people to sew for the first time. It was so rewarding, while also being able to talk and laugh about life with friends!

Packing Food at "Feed My Starving Children"

I really believe that it so important to serve others as a Christian. At CYT, it's essential to focus on what goes on behind the scenes, as well as the show that is being put up. These services projects have helped us grow closer as a cast while also helping the older kids step up as leaders (while having fun!) My prayer is that those that receive this help will know that they are loved by us and by God- that He is watching over them, they are cared for, and that they are precious in His eyes.

Being in CYT has shown me that I can be myself. I think it's incredibly important for the older kids to be leaders and spend time with the younger kids. I remember looking up to the teenagers, and I know that taking a few minutes can change a person's life. Once I started CYT, I realized that I can be myself, have friends, and be proud of who I am. CYT has given me confidence to be myself, to share my faith and to be a leader. "
