MIO: Made in Oakland Launch
NW LogoThe Unity Council is pleased to announce the launch of our latest program mio: made in oakland, a social venture enterprise designed to bring sustainable sewing manufacturing to Oakland. The new enterprise will create 60-70 living wage jobs with benefits in Oakland and will primarily serve independent designers, fashion and home furnishing companies who seek sample development and production here in the United States.

More than 100 fashion designers and supporters turned out for the mio: made in oakland launch party on Friday, September 26. The event featured a Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center workshop presented by the founder of Gymboree Stores, Julie Arvan, a happy hour performance by artists Las Bomberas de la Bahia, and a sneak preview of mio's workshop at the Fruitvale Village.

Mio: made in oakland is made possible with the support of the Federal Office of Community Services, Federal Home Loan Bank and a consulting partnership with Evans Group International based in Los Angeles. To learn more, please visit our website or view a recent media piece about us.
