Cool Water Safety Tips for Dogs
- If your dog is going swimming in a pond, thoroughly check out the area for broken glass, fishing lines and other hazards. If swimming in the ocean, be aware of tides and currents.
- Never leave your dog unsupervised. Every year, dogs drown in pools after becoming exhausted, trying to find their way out, even when stairs are available.
- Always show your dog an easy way out of the pool.
- Always have your dog wear a flotation device.
- Always hose off your pet after swimming.
- If boating, be aware that dogs get seasick too.
- If boating or out in the sun for long periods of time, dog get sunburn, too.
