A Note from our Director

Eleven years ago, Henri Landwirth, philanthropist and Holocaust survivor, walked into a shelter for homeless men. He asked what he could do to help. One man stood up and said," Sir, we need underwear." With that, Henri went to a local K Mart and purchased all the underwear in the store. He noticed some of the packaging was ripped. When receiving a positive response to the idea of new product being donated and delivered to the needy, Dignity was born.
Since that day, Dignity has delivered $125 million dollars worth of apparel and accessories to over three hundred social service agencies in the U.S. We have less than a 5.0% overhead. Our UNDIE campaign is underway. Our partner agencies are being served. Our National Spokesperson Mark Wahlberg is fully engaged. We are blessed to have him as our partner. He is a man of faith, an adoring husband, a loving father, and a person who "gets it" when it comes to giving back.
Our three initiatives - school children, women in crisis, and veterans are moving ahead full force with partners such as CSX, Brooks Brothers, Destination Maternity, Cantor Fitzgerald and Maidenform. There are major events being planned in NYC beginning June 13th at Brooks Brothers on Madison Ave. Stay tuned.
On a personal note, I want to thank all those who warmly welcomed me as Executive Director. You have given me energy and hope. I plan to serve Dignity in the spirit of its founder; with humility, perseverance, and love. With your continued support, we will build on our success record. You are a gift to us and for that we are grateful. Happy Passover and Happy Easter. May God bless us all and the work of Dignity U Wear.

2012 Undie Campaign: Register Now

We are excited to announce the launch of our 2012 Undie Campaign (formerly Undie Sunday Undie Monday).
This year you will notice a fresh, new look and name. The reason behind this change? It's simple! We want to engage more people in the work of our organization and open up the event to our friends across the country.
The former Undie Sunday Undie Monday campaign was largely focused on underwear drives that took place in the Jacksonville, Florida area. Will we still have those? Absolutely! You can learn how to host a clothing drive and register here. Would you like to fundraise with friends and family but not hold a physical collection? Now's your chance.
With The Undie Campaign, we look forward to equipping supporters nationwide with the tools they need to hold their own clothing drives and fundraisers to help us provide the most basic needs to women, children and veterans in need.
We invite you to join us in this exciting campaign. The Undie Campaign begins today and will come to a close on Monday, May 21, 2012.

Tornado Victims Receive $1 Million of New Clothing
Tornado victims, whose lives were torn apart by the recent storms in the Midwest, received a $1 million truck load of new clothing necessities from Dignity U Wear.
"As a result of our partnerships with leading clothing manufacturers and retailers, we were able to mobilize quickly and consolidate shipments valued at over $1 million of new clothing for men, women, and children. The truck container is packed with basics - underwear, socks, pants, short and long-sleeved shirts, jackets and winter hats. These important items that all of us take for granted, will help the affected people of Indiana get back on their feet. Our partner CSX Corporation was able to deliver the shipment to Indiana Baptist Disaster Relief in just a matter of days," said Truncellito.
"Our warehouse in Jacksonville, FL contains racks and boxes of all sizes of new clothing that we procure on an on-going basis to support a network of 300+ nonprofit social service agencies in all 50 states. We are pleased we were able to deliver these shipments as fast as we could to Indiana Baptist Disaster Relief, so they can get the clothing in to hands of the families who have been left destitute by the horrific storms last week," commented Truncellito.

Volunteer Spotlight: Elois Smith
Elois Smith has volunteered at Dignity for 2 years. She faithfully arrives four mornings a week to sort, inspect and box clothing in preparation for delivery.
According to Elois she enjoys giving back and helping others and believes Dignity U Wear's work is crucial because "they help everyone, not just certain people, and they're here for the whole family."
Thank you, Elois, for making our work possible!
