Greetings!
Happy 2009! I have to admit, I used to be against making New Year's resolutions because my perception was that most are broken and to experience a personal failure so early into a new year seemed to set a negative tone just when we're feeling all hopeful for change.
However, in researching this newsletter, I ran across the following statistics:
Half of adult Americans make at least one New Year's resolution each year. 75% of the resolutions are maintained past the first week, 71% past two weeks, 64% past one month and 46% are still in effect at six months or more. When you think about it, those are actually pretty good odds for making positive change.
Most resolutions are focused on some perceived personal flaw: Dropping pounds, smoking cessation, curbing shopaholic tendencies, saving more money, spending more time with family - all noble aspirations, but what if we resolve instead to do something that might positively impact the people we come into contact with on a daily basis?
If you haven't yet made a resolution, here's a recommendation: Pick a word to focus on for the entire year. You may chose any word that is important to you. Perhaps it is patience or awareness or gratitude or kindness or joy. If none of those feel right, find your own word, but pick one and each day write down at least three instances where you were able to consciously feel, express or share your word.
Can you imagine the impact to your life if you practice kindness at least three times a day? Or how full your life will be if you stay present in the moment by being keenly aware of your surroundings, interactions and the situations you encounter? What if you consciously find joy no matter the difficulties you face?
And if you complete this resolution, by the end of the year you will have at least 1000 notations - 1000 instances of gratitude, patience, serenity, friendship, generosity, or love.
As we all know, what we put out into the Universe comes back to us threefold so in this new year resolve to focus on the positive - give positively to others and by doing so you will give positively to yourself.

Releasing Attachments
How many of you have more 'stuff' than you know what to do with? Wouldn't you feel freer if you eliminated the clutter in your life? Sometimes we feel attached to things when in fact they are only inanimate objects taking up space.
Now is the time to clear out those closets, sift through the excess and release the things that no longer serve you. Haven't worn it in six months? How about donating your gently worn business attire to Clothes that Work, a group who provides work-appropriate clothing to men and women entering (or reentering) the workforce? (contact info below)
Did you get a new computer for Christmas? Don't know what to do with your old one? If it's still in functional condition, consider donating it to the Coachella Valley Boys & Girls Club or to a local senior center where it can be put to good use.
And finally, if you have a pile of greeting cards you've been saving for years, why not donate them to the City of Palm Desert who is continuing their S.C.R.A.P. Gallery and Children's Discovery Museum of the Desert? Children at both organizations will transform the greeting cards into art projects.
There is something liberating about simplifying your life, especially when you're making life better for someone else. If you need an extra pair of hands to clear out the garage, your office or your closets, Executive Errands can help. Have a pile to donate to charity? We'll pick it up and deliver it for you, or, if you have big items, we can arrange for pickup on your behalf.
Let us help Free Up Your Life!!!!

In this month's Body & Soul magazine is a beautiful quote by Katrina Repka and Alan Finger, authors of Breathing Space: Twelve Lessons for the Modern Woman.
It is titled "Carpe Diem [Seize the Day]" and says "To live each day as if it were your last, you would be trying to remedy all the mistakes you had made, all the regrets, all the things unsaid. If you live each day as if it were your first, you are freed from all obligations, all guilt, all regret".
In reality there is only today. The past is gone and the future never really gets here. There is value and reward in being present in this moment, in how you treat others, and the choices you make.
For many reasons, this is a year for hope. And my hope for you is that you resolve to choose a word for growth and make this a year of giving. Give of yourself, your heart and your values and may you live each day as if it is your first. ==============================
Writing a monthly newsletter is a scary proposition and a huge commitment. Obviously we hope you'll get to know us and choose us for your Personal Concierge needs, but more than that, we hope to inspire someone even if it's in a small way.
Each month we receive a few emails with positive feedback and we love receiving them. Last month, however, we were touched in a very special way.
As one of the Breakfast Sponsors for the monthly CAI meeting, we gave away a gift card in a raffle. The gentleman who won it took my hand and said (quote) "thank you for the newsletter you sent this month [Dec]. I especially loved the story about your bird. My sister just had her fifth cancer surgery and I'm forwarding your newsletter to her for inspiration".
I was so humbled by his genuine and heartfelt comments, my eyes welled up with tears. That's why we do this newsletter.
Have a wonderful January!
Sincerely,
Leslie Spoor
