Greetings!

Have you ever taken a huge chance?  You know what I mean.  Where you go so far out on a limb for something, the branch is bent precariously over and you're standing there, arms outstretched like a tightrope walker, holding your breath and Dilemmapraying the branch will hold?  Yes, that's a very scary feeling, but when that branch springs up and you're able to tiptoe back toward the trunk, isn't it rewarding?

Ok, so there's always the risk the branch will launch you into the stratosphere, tossing you end for end until you land, bruised and battered in a lump on the ground (and believe me, it happens occasionally) but most of the time the branch holds.  And when it does, the fear was well worth it.

Fear is generally rooted in the unknown and, in varying degrees, permeates our everyday life.  Whether it's a first time mother worrying about the birth experience, a job interview, a doctor's appointment, a tax audit, buying our first home - all these things carry a little fear and anxiety with them.

One of the single most terrifying experiences is to decide, midlife, to change careers. When we quit our day job and give upscared the security of a regular paycheck for a chance to build something extraordinary, there are a myriad of things to fear, not the least of which is whether we have what it takes to be successful.   That's when the branch is stretched to its limit.

Starting your own business is like trying to push a jumbo jet up a hill, your shoulder shoved against the tail section, your back straining and sweat pouring down your brow.  At first it seems impossible but then, just before you experience a hernia, the wheels start to move.  Not fast of course, but slight movement.  So you find it somewhere deep inside to push a little bit harder and all of a sudden the wheels are moving, the plane is climbing the hill and with each foot forward, the effort gets easier.

The key to success is to do something every day toward your goals.  Never give up.  Always go that little bit extra.  In fact, "go beyond the usual, regular or customary" because when you do, the rewards are immeasurable.  Especially when your Clients take the time to tell you how much your service means to them.  How you've made their life easier or bailed them out of a jam. Nothing beats the feeling we get when we hear their words of appreciation.

Other News & Announcements

Last month was a big one for Executive Errands, with many special events and sponsorships.  Here is a recap for three of our biggest events:

~~Our donations to the Boys & Girls Club Auction raised nearly $5000.  We wish it could have been more, but we're still proud to have done that much in our first participation with this wonderful Boys & Girls Cluborganization.  We'd like to thank Brian Harnik, Jan Hawkins, Mike Way, Rondi Edwards and Kelly Flannigan for their support of Executive Errands.  We'd also like to wish incoming President Justice Doug Miller (husband of Executive Errands' Sales & Marketing Manager, Phyllis Miller) a prosperous year for the children.

~~We were happy to sponsor the Palm Desert Chamber breakfast last month.  Faithful readers of this newsletter know the PD Chamber is near and dear to our hearts and we'd PDCCespecially like to thank Katie Slimko, Andy Mueller and Sandy Cloyd for always being so helpful and pleasant with which to work.   They are always working to promote the Chamber in a positive and productive way.

~~As one of the sponsors for Fashion Week El Paseo, we truly had a ball!  Our Concierges spent two weeks selling tickets outside the Gardens and met so many wonderful people.  One of our service providers, Simon's Private Car Service, provided PalmSpringsLifetransportation for Head Designer Eduardo Lucero and we enjoyed creating a picnic scene in our booth for A Splendid Affaire.  Palm Springs Life deserves a very special thank you from Executive Errands as they have been quite generous to us in both promoting our company and referring us business.  To Susan Stein and Michael Matthews - you are both amazing!  And thank you too to Kayla Pressman of Signature Events who is not only gracious but did a fantastic job coordinating the first ever 'A Splendid Affaire' event.  We appreciate and enjoy working with all of you!

Life is full of challenges and opportunities.  Fear accompanies many of them and I'm grateful it does.  When we face fear head on and come through it successfully, we know with absolute certainty we are alive.

I fly airplanes and each time I climb inside the cockpit, terror grips my heart.  But on final approach, when the stall warning goes off and the nosewheel touches down safely, there is a sense of accomplishment that can't be adequately explained.  It is, at once, both relief and exhilaration.

There is no need to attack fear in the extreme.  No need to put one's life in danger.  But I would challenge you to take a chance.  Go out on a limb for something you believe it.  At least once in your life, choose the riskier path and believe in yourself that you have what it takes to succeed.

If you've enjoyed this newsletter, please forward it on to your friends and colleagues.  If you have a comment, we'd love to hear it.   If you need something done and didn't see it on a list, please call and ask - we'll do our best to accommodate you.

As always, thank you for taking the time to read our newsletter and feel free to check out back issues in our newsletter archive.

Sincerely,

Leslie Spoor ICEA
