Have you ever noticed how tiny events can alter your mood?  I'm sure you've experienced being carried back to a special event simply by hearing a song on the radio or feeling suddenly patriotic when watching fireworks or seeing a parade.  Well this month one of those events happened to me but it involved a dog.

 

I was driving down Country Club, mentally dovetailing my endless 'to do' list when out of the corner of my eye I noticed a family wandering around enjoying the water feature near the Palm Desert Resort.  Suddenly their dog, a white lab I believe, leapt into the air.  His front legs were straight out the front, his back legs straight out the back - sort of the way those pictures of 'when pigs fly' are depicted.  For a brief second he seemed suspended, then did a perfect belly flop into the pond.  It was an amazing sight and happened in literally the blink of an eye.

 

Immediately I burst into laughter and I'm still smiling as I recant the experience.  That dog flew through the air with such freedom, such total trust and what I perceived to be total joy, that I felt elated.  What had been an 'ok' day was suddenly full of my own joy.  The dog's total abandon inspired me and echoed my own philosophy that we should live life in the same way.  There should be no 'maybes', no 'I shouldas', no hesitancy.  We should attack life with gusto, our figurative paws straight out the front and the back, flying through the air toward the best we can be.
