A season of joy, and a year of accomplishments

As the the year calms and settles into its final week of holiday celebrations, the Waterford Foundation--thanks to each of you who make our work possible--can reflect on a year of tremendous accomplishment.
The 17th year of the Waterford Concert Series brought four outstanding classical performances to Loudoun, as well as a special concert fundraiser at Patowmack Farm.
In April the Waterford Fondation received a letter from Michelle Obama announcing Waterford's designation as a Preserve America Community, and Loudoun Board of Supervisors Chairman Scott York formally presented us with the award at our Annual Meeting.
In May two new publications helped bring alive the history of Waterford and Loudoun in the Civil War: Between Reb and Yank, a comprehensive history written by Taylor Chamberlin and John Souders, and A Pocket Guide to Waterford's Civil War, by John Souders.
We also inaugurated our commemoration of the Civil War Sesquicentennial with the unveiling of two historic markers: a Civil War Trails sign and a marker noting the Independent Loudoun Virginia Rangers role and importance in the war, with the help of a reenactment group representing the Rangers, and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
In July we broke ground on the rebuilding of the Old School Auditorium, after nearly 5 years of fundraising and planning following its destruction by fire in January 2007. Day by day we watch construction advance, as we continue the final leg of fundraising to complete and furnish this iconic Waterford structure.
In August the first harvest from the Phillips Farm--of honey!--was available for purchase at the Corner Store in Waterford, thanks to Jeff Pfoutz of Loudoun Center Apiaries. (We are now sold out!)
In October we enjoyed a hugely successful Waterford Homes Tour & Crafts Exhibit, on three beautiful autumn days. Civil War Sesquicentennial reenactments and educational exhibits enhanced the experience for thousands of fairgoers, who walked the streets trod by Union and Confederate soldiers and supporters in Quaker Waterford from 1861 to 1865.
And in November the work of our small but highly effective organization was recognized as the Nonprofit of the Year by the Loudoun Cnamber of Commerce.
Thank you all for your sustained support. It has been an honor to serve you, and the Foundation.
 President

Antiques and Art Auction set for May
As we celebrate the opening of the Old School Auditorium and launch our final phase of the Capital Campaign, the Waterford Foundation will be sponsoring an antiques and art auction in the spring of 2012. Mark the date of May 19, 2012, on your calendar for this day-long event at the Old School. A preview party with an antique appraiser available and a silent auction will tqake place the Friday evening before the auction. "We will be collecting antiques and art in very good condition," says Sherry Satin, event coordinator. One donor already has offered an early signed tall case clock (1815) and an 18th century highboy, as well as other exceptional pieces of antique furniture and decorative arts. Find something special to donate and join us for a weekend of fun! For more information contact Sherry at 540-882-9677.
