Begelman-Gelman concert

We are pleased to welcome clarinet and bassoon duo Igor Begelman and Larisa Gelman for the final concert of the 2011 series at 4 p.m. Sunday, December  4 at the Catoctin Presbyterian Church in Waterford.

Scheduled to begin our concert series in March, their appearance was postponed due to injuries Mr. Begelman sustained in an automobile accident last winter.

Tickets are $25 (children 12 and under free), and can be purchased by phone (540-882-3018, ext. 117) or at the door on the day of the concert.

Old School Auditorium construction

 advances rapidly

OS aud trusses set

This morning at the Old School a crane lifted roof trusses into place on the new Auditorium. After days of good weather, the structure has risen from the foundation, and it is expected to be under roof soon, allowing interior construction to continue through the winter months.

Also under construction are plans to return this beloved facility to the community with a celebration. The Waterford Concert Series eagerly awaits returning home in 2012, for the 18th year of bringing fine music to Loudoun. Other events--weddings, parties, and meetings--will certainly follow.

And yes, we do still have fundraising to do!

Shopping to do?

Waterford gifts 2011

The National Historic Landmark of Waterford not only is wonderful to visit, but to remember--with gifts that honor its history, architecture, agriculture, and beauty.

You can begin with the lovely canvas tote bag with a design by Susie Holmbraker ($20), and fill it with honey from the Phillips Farm (in three sizes, $3, $6, and $10), add a book or two (Between Reb and Yank at $52.50, A Pocket Guide to Waterford's Civil War, $5.25, and many more), and a pewter tree ornament with images of Waterford buildings designed by K&S Pewter ($20).

Notecards (8 for $12), tiles ($7 each), and magnets ($.50 each) with iconic Waterford building images created by Valerie Schaem, will fit in your shopping bag, too. And all those gifts can be wrapped in newly designed wrapping paper with those same images (4 sheets of 24 x 36-inch paper for $7), most generously produced for us by Better Impressions of Sterling, Virginia. And this year's Fair poster, a print from the 1941 painting "The Mill at Waterford, Virginia," by Garnet Jex, is available framed ($150) or unframed ($35).

And a gift of a Waterford Foundation membership ($50 individual and $100 family) is always welcome, with its promise of tickets for the 2012 Waterford Homes Tour & Crafts Exhibit, as is a concert series subscription ($80).

Visit the Waterford Foundation office at the Corner Store, 40183 Main Street ( 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday), or contact us by phone or email to start your gift giving.

(Oh, and we at the Foundation, with 13 historic properties to maintain, have our own wish list. After you click on this link, search through the list in the left-hand column.)
