Art Scholarship Competition for Loudoun County High School Students

The Waterford Foundation's annual Homes Tour & Crafts Exhibit (The Waterford Fair) will again host the Florence Kiley Fellowship fine art competition for Loudoun County high school students. The winner of the competition may use the $2,500 prize for study in the fine arts at any institution or with any teacher of the winner's choice. The winner will be chosen at the 2011 Waterford Fair and the winning entry will be displayed during the event.

The Florence Kiley Fellowship was established by the family of Florence Elizabeth Marcus Kiley, a Loudoun art teacher and artist who passed away in 1985. It perpetuates her memory through encouragement of high school seniors and college freshmen in their pursuit of art.

Students who are, or will be, Loudoun County High School seniors during the current calendar year are invited to compete for the Florence Kiley Fellowship for Study in the Fine Arts.

Selection of the winning entry will be based on the quality of the work and the judge's assessment of the level of talent and the extent to which the student would benefit from further study.

Entry is limited to one original artwork per artist, to be submitted shortly before the October Waterford Fair. Media accepted include oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, drawings, charcoals, original prints and wood blocks, mixed media and collage, sculpture and photography. Students do not need to be enrolled in an art class to enter.

Information about the Florence Kiley Fellowship has been distributed to all Loudoun County high school art teachers.  Interested students can also call the Waterford Foundation at 540-882-3018 or email fairchair@waterforfoundation.org or fairadmin@waterfordfoundation.org  for details.
