2010 Concert Season set

Ever since fire destroyed the Old School auditorium in January 2007, the Waterford Concert Series has been homeless. Musicians, friends and neighbors are rallying again in 2010 to make possible a brilliant sixteenth season in Waterford and Leesburg.

A world famous guitar-flute duo begins the season March 21, followed in April by a chamber orchestra. Young virtuosi perform in June. The season finale will be a fall grand opera showcase.

Two beautiful historic churches and the stage on the new campus of Loudoun Country Day School have been provided as temporary concert halls. Thanks to everyone responsible for these fine venues. A special thanks to our sponsors and donors. Support for the concert series contributes to the Waterford Foundation and its effort to rebuild our lost auditorium.

Following the first two concerts (see calendar above) will be the popular Next Generation concert of young performers, at 4 p.m. June 6 at Loudoun Country Day School.

August 7 will bring the return of the Marks Brothers' Musical Remarks series, for a local performance. (This concert is not part of the regular concert series).

And on November 7 the series finale will be a glorious opera concert of young performers from the Maryland Opera Studio, at 4 p.m. at St. James Episcopal Church in Leesburg.

A series subscription for the 2010 season of four concerts is only $80, and includes an invitation to a special reception with performers. Series subscriptions may be ordered from the Foundation website, by phone, or by mail. (Concert goers will receive a mailing and subscription form in January; contact the foundation office if you wish to be placed on the mailing list.)

More information on the performers, the series, and the concerts will soon be posted on our website.

Our thanks to you

Happy, Merry Holidays to our dear Friends and Supporters,

While it's been a tough year in many respects, it has also been a successful one, thanks to you!

  • The Old School Classroom Building was beautifully restored and became available to host Foundation meetings and events, including our Annual Meeting, the Fair Varnishing Night reception, Photography Exhibit and craftspeople for the first time since the fire.
  • Waterford gardens were opened to celebrate spring and to help Raise the Roof of the Old School auditorium.
  • The Phillips Farm nature and history interpretative trail opened with a Labor Day family picnic.Riparian buffer work and removal of invasive species continued with help from our partner, the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy.
  • Many of our buildings received tender loving care, including: an entrance to the basement of the Old Mill, a new roof for the Ice House, repairs to the Chair Factory's large doors, painting and structural repairs to the Forge, painting of the Tin Shop interior, repairs and painting of Schooley Mill Barn, and painting of the Bond Street Barn and John Wesley Community Church roofs.
  • And the ever-popular Waterford Homes Tour & Crafts Exhibit welcomed thousands of people from 44 states to warm autumn days in our National Historic Landmark village-the highest level of historical designation that can be bestowed.

Thank you for your support of our mission to preserve and protect the Waterford National Historic Landmark District. Your  past donations have allowed us to

  • Maintain 13 historic buildings and 195 acres of protected open space surrounding the village,
  • Present our respected educational programs, including the Second Street School Living History program, and our vibrant Waterford Concert Series.
  • And continue to work towards Raising the Roof of  the Old School auditorium. We are more than half way toward the funds we need to begin construction.

If you have not already  done so, your generous donation will help the Waterford Foundation carry on in 2010 with all it takes to save and share this marvelous part of America's rural past.

PLEASE ACT NOW!

Every dollar contributed assists our educational programs and ensures the continued preservation of the Waterford National Historic Landmark!

With thanks and warm wishes for the holidays,

Volunteers thanked at Mill

SusanPeggyFran-Mill09Foundation volunteers were thanked with a party on the night before the Old Mill opened for shoppers during the two days of Christmas at the Mill.

Jeff Bean (at right) provided the music for the December 4 event, and staff and volunteers provided the food and drink for all those who have so generously given their time and talent to the Foundation.

It was a well-attended affair.
Thank you to all who are so vital to the fulfillment of the mission of the Waterford Foundation.
