Phillips Farm Trail opens with a weekend picnic
A sign marks the Phillips Farm trailhead.Join us on Saturday September 5 at 5 p.m. for the official opening of the Phillips Farm interpretive trail. Thanks to a generous grant from
the Piedmont Community Foundation's Peter M. Howard Memorial Fund and
our Phillips Farm Committee chaired Mimi Westervelt, new interpretive trail
markers and brochures now detail the natural and cultural history of the 144-acre property. Numbered posts, constructed by Committee member Rob Hale and his son
Andrew, now highlight specific points of interest to add to enjoyment of your
visit.Visitors are invited to picnic at the Mill and take a guided tour of the trail. (See more details in the flyer attached below.) Information on the trail and Farm will soon be posted on the Foundation website. A box holding self-guided tour brochures was designed and constructed by Rob Hale. [photos by John Souders]

Marks family enchants again in Waterford
On August 14, members and friends of the Marks family gave us a memorable concert at the Catoctin Presbyterian Church in Waterford. Their decision
to play five short pieces by area composers was a pleasant surprise, and one
that involved the audience in voting for their favorite. What a generous
gesture to foster other local talent and give us all something to look forward
to next year when the winner is commissioned to produce a full-length
composition for their summer concerts.
At the performance's conclusion, the audience
was charmed to be introduced to some of their small children, an assurance that
this remarkably talented family will endure to delight still another
generation.
