Another Wonderful
Concert Season Begins

concertartists08

The first concert of the Waterford Concert Season will take place this Sunday, March 16, at 4 p.m. at the Lucketts Community Center and will be a very exciting opera concert by the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artists (two of whom are pictured above) from the Washington National Opera. There will be selections from grand opera as well as pieces from lighter fare.

Where else can you hear a whole group of up-and-coming artists such as the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artists--hand-picked by Domingo himself!--for only $25? Young opera singers and directors under Domingo's guidance are preparing for careers in the Washington National Opera and other major companies by singing for people like us. High-spirited and extremely accomplished, these artists thrill audiences fortunate enough to see them in action. The venue is very intimate and acoustically almost perfect.

The Waterford Concert Series is a terrific way to enjoy top-quality classical music without the long drive into Washington--and the roster of musicians this year is just as good as those you would hear at the Kennedy Center or other downtown venues. For $100 you can get a series subscription for five concerts. (Just $20 a concert!). Or if you buy tickets at the door, the price is $25, under 12 free. Even if you might miss one or two concerts, you can give your tickets to family or friends, or consider your unused tickets a donation. For full information about all the concerts, please check out the Waterford Foundation website.

This year the concerts are again at the Lucketts Community Center, as the Waterford Old School auditorium has not yet been rebuilt. However, by 2009, the 15th anniversary of the Waterford Concert Series, we hope to be back in the new Old Waterford School with fabulous music to celebrate.

Please come to enjoy our wonderful music and support the concert series and the Waterford Foundation. Order your tickets by phone today (call the Waterford Foundation office, 540 882-3018). Purchase of series tickets saves $25 over the series season, and series ticket holders receive an invitation to a reception with performers.

New Century Saxophone Quartet
Sunday, April 13, 2008, 4 p.m.

A quartet of saxophones-soprano, alto, tenor, baritone-is a perfect vehicle for a versatile repertoire from Bach to Bernstein to today's composers. The New Century has won critical acclaim for recordings and performances of Bach's The Art of the Fugue, works by 21st century composers and jazz. This concert puts the Quartet's "elegant musicianship" and range on full display.

St. Petersburg String Quartet
Sunday, November 23, 2008, 4 p.m.

One of the world's great string quartets, founded in 1985 in Russia, the St. Petersburg String Quartet moved to the US in 1997. Happily relocated, the Quartet continues to win prizes and top reviews for its recordings and concerts all over this country and around the globe. Here is a sample of what critics say: "Flawless ensemble . . . stylish supple, open-hearted performance" (New York Times); "breathtaking assurance and laugh-out-loud wit" (Washington Post); "rhapsodic volatility" (Los Angeles Times); "Simply fabulous" (Houston Chronicle).

Represented by Lisa Sapinkopf Artists.
