Greetings!
A few short years ago, I submitted my song "Travis John" to Noel Paul Stookey's Music2Life contest. I've been writing songs all my life but it's against my nature to enter competitions. This time though, I was moved to try it. My song was a cry for peace. It was meaningless in a vacuum and people of all kinds were moved by its message.
I bit the bullet, swallowed my pride, stopped procrastinating and sent in my song.
It won the Grand Prize. It was judged by my heroes. $1000 winnings went to Adopt-a-Minefield in Travis' memory. Thousands of people heard the song and a million more would. We flew to the Kerrville Folk Festival and played the song onstage. We met folk legends and songwriting peers. We were welcomed to inner circles where the good work of writing songs held more value than cash. We entered a new realm just for trying.
All for a song.
If you have a song that "makes a difference", consider submitting it to Music2Life before February 1. (Click on any of the links or pictures for details.)
The money you win goes to the cause you care about and the ears of the world will open wide to hear your song.
This year it could be you.
There's never been a better time than right now.
The world needs good songs today. Go ahead, make a difference!
Good luck! Kate Power
