Portland,
OR - Kate Power & Steve Einhorn are taking to the road this Fall
with guitars, banjos and more than a few ukuleles to harmonize
community through concerts and workshops, including appearances at
Pete Seeger's Pumpkin Festival in Beacon, New York (10/18), Caffe
Lena in Saratoga Springs, NY (10/23) and Club Passim in Cambridge, MA
(10/25).
In
the Seeger tradition, Kate & Steve have been drawing people out
to sing for decades in the Pacific Northwest. Journeyman musicians
and former owners of the historic folk mecca, Artichoke Music, sold
the store, bought a van and are taking to the road with their music,
art and a new book.
Spurred
by the publication of their new "Ukalaliens Songbook" & CD,
these "Johnny Appleseeds" are walking their talk and setting out
to teach dozens a day how to sing and play as they cross the USA.
Collaborating with innovative uke builder, Mike Upton, Kala Brand Ukulele Company joins the fun by stocking the Quality Folk mobile with dozens of ukuleles for Kate & Steve to lend to the ukeless at every stop. Planned or spontaneous, Ukalaliens sitings are multiplying and turning out new players daily!
Ukalalien:
n. a newly converted ukulele player prone to singing and
strumming on the ukulele, spurred to spontaneous acts of music and
song singing, both alone and with others, regardless of setting or
circumstances, thereby creating a euphoric sense of wellbeing.
