October 2007
|
Greetings!
Staging entertainment for the nomadic 20th anniversary ride, we invited musicians from the local communities we visited, as well as world-class headliners to perform on the Cycle Oregon 2007 main stage. The cycling tent city kicked off the week-long pedal-fest in Sisters, Oregon to the strings and voices of the Sisters Folk Festival. 2200 riders rode from Sisters to LaPine to Diamond Lake, Crater Lake, Dorena Lake to Oakridge to Rainbow at Tokatee and back again to Sisters. The Ride covered 500 miles of rugged terrain in beautiful weather backed by solid support from the Cycle Oregon dream team of volunteers & staff turning a small city of strangers into a cycling tribe of riders. Music still echoes from great performances by The Greencards, Houston Jones, Robbie Laws Trio, McKinley, Jon Koonce, Etouffee and Misty River. We grew a few songs for the ride, including a swing tune for safe riding and a waltzing lullaby for 2200 of our newest friends on wheels. Cycle Oregon promotes goodwill wherever they ride, bringing out the best in a remarkably diverse bunch and integrating them with rural Oregon for unique encounters at every stop along the way. The pot of gold at the end of this ride was filled with meaningful community and renewed confidence backed by the experience that all things ARE possible when people decide to come together and make a dream come true. If you're looking for your optimism, try Cycle Oregon. It works!
