Greetings! A week before the exhibit to give tribute to a lifetime of building some of the most beautiful instruments ever played, John Sullivan passed away. John was always a modest and a private man. It's no surprise to those who knew him that he left before he could be put on a pedestal. The fact is, John loved music, loved to play and was one of the best luthiers in the country. His instruments speak for themselves. Owning a "Sullivan" is on par with having holy grail and carries with it all the respect and awe evocative of true treasure.
Come pay homage to John Sullivan at the Wonder Ballroom at 128 NE Rusell this Sunday and take in this rare, one-time-only exhibition of a special tribute collection of 25 Sullivan instruments. Then hear them played by Portland's finest. A film on John Sullivan at work will be shown.
Music from the True Vine concert, chili & cornbread feed on Sunday, April 29th from 2-6PM at the Wonder Ballroom. Contributions to defray medical costs are gratefully accepted.
Bands on Sullivan instruments include: Dr Corn, Misty Mamas, Seamus Egan, Taarka, Great Northern Planes, Jackstraw, Greg Clarke & more. Spend an unforgettable afternoon in tribute to a Portlander worth remembering in style. RIP.
