Downtown Ferndale will be full of art all weekend with the staging of the Funky Ferndale Art Show AND the DIY Street Fair from Friday, September 16 through Sunday, September 18.
MotorCity Casino Hotel is the presenter of both fairs.
- The Funky Ferndale Art Fair (FFAF) covers West Nine Mile Rd., from Woodward west to Planavon, and features a juried collection of work by more than 100 local and national artists. Adding ambiance to the FFAF is mellow accoustical music line up and special participation initiatives such as a Family Arts Project and a Toilet Paper Mache demo.
FFAF hours are: Friday - 4 - 8 pm
Saturday - 10 am - 7 pm
Sunday - Noon - 5 pm
- The DIY Street Fair,presented by Woodward Avenue Brewers, takes place on East Troy Street, one block south of Nine Mile Road and east of Woodward. The DIY features the work of local artisans and quirky crafters who produce an array of extraordinary products from hand made soaps to t-shirts to paintings, photographs and more. In addition to its 100+ vendors, the DIY also features more than 50 live music acts and an entire area designed to engage children in the fun of arts & crafts. Also on tap are two beer garden areas featuring WAB brewed beer.
DIY hours are: Friday - 5 pm - Midnight
Saturday - Noon - Midnight
Sunday - Noon - 11 pm

How to Enjoy Downtown Ferndale's Art Fair Weekend
1. Plan ahead and pick your day.
2. Visit www.downtownferndale.com OR www.michiganartshow.com OR www.diystreetfair.com to map out your game plan.
3. Visit Downtown Ferndale's 3D Globe at www.3DFerndale.com to see what streets are closed for traffic and the location of parking lots.
4. DowntownFerndale.com will also have vendor maps for both fairs AND the music schedule for DIY. You can print out your map at home or get one at the Ferndale DDA Information Tent, which will be located near Woodward & Nine.
5. Wear comfortable shoes. Really!
6. Hydrate! The DDA, FFAF and DIY will all be distributing FREE bottled water, courtesy MotorCity Casino Hotel. Enjoy and then recycle!
7. Take a minute to sign up for ParkMobile and you'll be entered to win an iPad. Look for the Green Pop Up Tent and the ParkMobile Team on the DIY side.
8. Be careful crossing Woodward, but be sure to cross. Both Fairs have great fare to see, to buy, to eat, to hear.
9. Bring a friend or arrange to meet them in Downtown Ferndale. The more the merrier!

Meet Tyree Guyton!
Detroit's Heidelberg Project Artist Tyree Guyton will make a rare personal appearance at Elegance by Design from 1-4 pm, Saturday, Sept. 17 to sign advance-release copies of his new and first children's book "Magic Trash."
A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit Ferndale Schools Fine Arts Boosters.
Elegance is located at 231 W. Nine Mile Rd., in the heart of the Ferndale Funky Art Fair. |

Downtown Ferndale Bike Shop, 163 W. Nine Mile Rd. - Watch Detroit graffiti artist Shades transform a white wall into something amazing. The work starts begins at 5 pm Friday and continues until completion.
Rust Belt Market -- Don't miss the Belt's inspiring assembly of artisan vendors who are now regular contributors to Downtown Ferndale's weekend culture. See what they've created, especially for THIS weekend.
