Distinguished national and regional guest artists, scholars, and local community members share their perspectives on "Landscape and Reclamation," the Department of Art's 2011-12 theme, in three solo exhibitions and associated departmental events scheduled at the Center for the Visual Arts, the University of Toledo's main campus, and in downtown Toledo at the Secor Building First Floor Gallery.

UT College of Visual and Performing Arts Faculty, Students & Alumni Capture Awards, Honors
Leslie Adams, an alumna of the Department of Art and a former UT College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Alumnus, received a First Award in the Toledo Area Artists 2011 Exhibition for her work "Senzione: A Self Portrait" (charcoal on paper, heighted with white). She was also invited to present her work in a solo exhibition at the Toledo Museum of Art in 2012, the first artist presented with this opportunity.
Seder Burns, a lecturer of new media at UT, was presented the Israel Abramofsky Award of the Temple-Congregation Shomer Emunim for his photograph, "Sunset at the RV Lot" (archival inkjet print). Student Jan Thomas received the Potters Guild award for the ceramic work "Tattoo." Tim Gaewsky of Toledo was awarded the University of Toledo Department of Art award for his mixed media piece "The Things We Fear in Life are the Things Can't Control."
Susan Mitchell (student), Karen Matthews (alumna), and Mania Dajnak (faculty) were also chosen from over 757 submissions to have their works displayed in the show. (Read more, see the works)
In the Theatre & Film Department, assistant professor of film, Holly Hey's work "Rat Stories" received an Honorable Mention in the Documentary Shorts Category at The 2011 Los Angeles Art-House Film Festival. In addition, the film will also appear locally on WGTE-TV, channel 30 on September 18 at 3 p.m.
