Congratulations A'shonti and Davon!!!
Kudos to our AIM High students at the University of Chicago Woodlawn Charter School for their amazing art & performance exhibition: Intersections, this past Friday. A'Shonti McKinney performed in several dance numbers & Davon Roberts sang in two different group performances. Famous cellist, Yo-Yo Ma was the guest of honor, and the whole night was an amazing display of talent at UCW. Congratulations A'Shonti & Davon!

| Year-End Recognition Event Date: May 31st, 2012
Time: 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., includes dinner Location: New Zion Church, 1950 W 13th St. Chicago, IL, 60608
Transportation: Transportation will be coordinated by schools. Family and mentors are responsible for getting to and from the event on their own. Cost: Free It's the last event of the AIM High School Calendar. Come join us to celebrate our seniors going off to college the year passed, and the upcoming year too. Dinner will be provided and family member are more than welcome to come! Registration for the event will close May 25th, so make sure to register before then.
Public Speaking Contest: Final Drafts Due this Friday, May 11th by 5 p.m. Its that time again where the Year- End Recognition event is around the corner and every Aim High student participates in the Public Speaking Contest. This year's topics are:
- Have you ever been discriminated against? If so, what was that experience like? If not, does racism still exist?
- What is it like growing up in Chicago? Pick a few topics and expand.
- Who is your role model? Why?
- Does self-image matter? If so, why or why not?
Remember,these speeches are supposed to be convincing and persuasive, so they should all relate to how do these topics or issues affect you. You can find the rubric for the contest here, with an explanation of rules and requirements.
THIS WEEK: May 11th- Final drafts due. May 18th- Top four announced. May 25th- Public speaking training May 31st- Year End Recognition Event
Don't forget, you have the best help a student can have: Your Mentors! Let them know some of the things you are thinking so they can help make your speeches that much better. To submit your final draft or if you have any questions, email Syndhia at [email protected].

Join us May 19 for Terrific Tales, our family reading & storytelling time with Nili Yelin
Who: All AIM High Students, Parents, and Mentors and Friends with young siblings or children in grades 0-7.
What: A fun family storytelling and reading time with the Storybook Mom - Nili Yelin.
Why: This initiative is geared toward bringing family members of all ages together. The goal is to connect with the younger children in the family and help give these children a jump-start in the race to reading and literacy. Reading to young children has many benefits for their educational development.
Where: Kelly Public Library, 6151 South Normal Blvd

| School Liasion Training: Best date and time to meet? To liaisons who have not done the liaison training, yet, please let me know what date and time will work best for you to conduct an hour and a half New Liaison Training. This will be a great opportunity to not only meet liaisons from other schools that we work with and exchange ideas, but also getting a better understanding of the key role you play in AIM High. Please email Syndhia at [email protected], with suggested times and dates.
Also, if you have any suggested space that we can use in your school for this meeting, please let us know.

Joint Session for UCW and Urban Prep- Englewood AIM High Students will continue this week!
We are going to try and make this meeting place and time the regular Leadership Institue for UCW and Urban Prep- Englewood.We would like to invite all UCW students to join in our Saturday Leadership Institute Meeting at the Kelly Library from 9am-11am .The Kelly Library is located at 6151 S. Normal Blvd (just a few blocks from the 63rd street Red Line stop).
Attendance is MANDATORY
If you are unable to attend, please email Rayne Bozeman at [email protected] or text (937) 830-4877. Incentive points are lost if you do not let Rayne know you will not be attending.
