Information For Students
| Public Speaking Contest: How to be top four? Its that time again where the Year- End Recognition event is around the corner and every Aim High student participates in the Public Speaking Contest. This years topics are:
- Have you ever been discriminated against? If so, what was that experience like? If not, does racism still exist?
- What is it like growing up in Chicago? Pick a few topics and expand.
- Who is your role model? Why?
- Does self-image matter? If so, why or why not?
Remember, these speeches are supposed to be convincing and persuasive, so they should all relate to how do these topics or issues affect you. You can find the rubric for the contest here, with an explanation of rules and requirements. Since for many of your students' schools we are not meeting next week, take this time to help them work on a good rough draft. Below is the Calendar of when things are due:
April 27th- First Drafts due for NLCP, and Urban Prep-Bronzeville.
May 4th- First drafts due for Westinghouse, UCW, UP-Englewood, and CTD.
May 11th- Final drafts due.
May 18th- Top four announced.
May 25th- Public speaking training,
May 31st- Year End Recognition Event
Don't forget, you have the best help a student can have: Your Mentors! Let them know some of the things you are thinking so they can help make your speeches that much better. If you have any questions, email Syndhia at [email protected]. Homework Tracker: What is it and How does it work?Last week, you were each given a Homework Tracker sheet again to write down your assigned homework in either Math or Social Studies. Once, you have written down your homework assignments, bring it to the leadership institute to get 3 points for your team. If you did not get assigned homework, that is fine, just have your teacher sign the sheet confirming that. The Incentive team that brings in all their Homework Trackers will get a bonus 10 points...and closer to that trip to Great America. If you lost or misplaced your Homework Tracker sheet, get it here. **Please fill in your current Homework Tracker sheet with last week's Science homework. This is for the week of April 9th to April 13th**
