Why:  Less than 6% of low-income, minority youth graduate from college.  We aim to change that!  Please join with us and March to College.

When:  Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 4:30pm

Where:  Upper Hutchison Field at Grant Park, Chicago

Start at SW corner of Balbo and Columbus

Who Should Participate: Everyone who believes in a college education; students and adults!  Register online to walk in the March to College here.  Or, you can also download a paper registration form and send it in.

Sponsorships: Sponsorship opportunities range from $10,000 to $500. Follow this link to become a March to College Sponsor.

Fees

5K Walk - Adults

5K Walk - Students

$25 from January 1st -March 1st;

$10 from now till Event Day!

$30 from March 2nd - Event Day (April 4th)


   

Refreshments & First Aid: Water will be provided at the start, finish and midway through the course. An Advance Life Support unit will be on-site through the duration of the event for any First Aid needs.

 

Transportation and Parking: Paid parking is available in the Grant Park and Millennium Park parking garages. Visit www.millenniumgarages.com for exact locations and rates.

Public transportation is convenient and highly recommended. Please visit this link for directions from your home to the event site via public transportation. To get to the event site via public transportation, recommendations are to exit the Red Line at State and Harrison and Walk SW to Columbus and Balbo. Also, bus routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 10, 14, 26, 129, 147, and X28 all stop at Michigan and Balbo (One block West of Event Site)

For Seniors: Benedictine University is hosting two upcoming events for students and their parents. The first is on March 10th. It is a FAFSA parents Workshop Night aimed to assist parents and students with completing the FAFSA (if they haven't already).

 

For Juniors and Seniors: The second event is on May 4th. It is a First Generation Students & Parents Night to discuss the steps students and parents can take to better prepare for college.

 

Joint Session for UCW and Urban Prep- Englewood AIM High Students will continue this week!

We are going to try and make this meeting place and time the regular Leadership Institue for UCW and Urban Prep- Englewood.We would like to invite all UCW students to join in our Saturday Leadership Institute Meeting at the Kelly Library from 9am-11am .The Kelly Library is located at 6151 S. Normal Blvd (just a few blocks from the 63rd street Red Line stop).

  

Attendance is MANDATORY

Who: All AIM High Students, Parents, and Mentors and Friends with young siblings or children in grades 0-7.

What: A fun family storytelling and reading time with the Storybook Mom - Nili Yelin.

Why: This initiative is geared toward bringing family members of all ages together. The goal is to connect with the younger children in the family and help give these children a jump-start in the race to reading and literacy. Reading to young children has many benefits for their educational development.

Where: Kelly Public Library, 6151 South Normal Blvd

When: The last Saturday of every month from 10am-11am.  

Beginning: February 25, 2012

Mentors: Good at Calculus? Help some of our AIM High Students!
We have had a couple of students approach us that they are struggling with their Calculus classes. If you are, or know someone who is good at calculus, and may be available to work with these students, please email syndhia at [email protected]

New Mentor Orientation: February 21st and  February 27th at 11:30am 

New mentors, if you did not participate in the previous New Mentor Training, there have been two new sessions added. New Mentor training will be  Tuesday, February 21st and Monday,February  21st. All sessions take place from 11:30am-1 pm.
