You're Invited...
Headwaters Trails Workshop

Greetings!

In the Fall of 2007, Headwaters Communities in Action hosted a meeting of area trails enthusiasts that resulted in a consensus on five priorities for immediate trails development for our area.  The information and enthusiasm generated at that meeting have led to some significant accomplishments for traiils in the Headwaters.

We hope you can join us for a free follow-up workshop being hosted by HCIA's Trails Working Group for any and all trails enthusiasts. The purpose of the session is to reconvene trails stakeholders from across the Headwaters and beyond to reconnect with HCIA and:
  • Share information and updates with one another
  • Learn more about the Dufferin Trails &  Active Transportation Master Plan
  • Explore how we might, individually and collectively, contribute to the vision of a connected system of trails and cycling lanes throughout the Headwaters

We are happy to announce that Patrick Connor, Executive Director of Ontario Trails Council will be attending as a keynote speaker at the event.  We have asked Patrick to share lessons and advice about the successful implementation of Trails and Active Transportation Master Plans.

Contact us if you'd like to bring along information and displays to share.

Bill 100:  Paved Shoulders on Secondary Provincial Highways

Vetrans Way Cycling Route

Bill 100 was introduced by Parry Sound Muskoka MPP Norm Miller in an effort to enhance public safety and promote active transporation across the province.

If passed into law, Bill 100 would require metre-wide paved shoulders for pedestrians and cyclists on designated secondary provincial highways across Ontario when a portion of it is significantly repaved or resurfaced.

The Bill has received strong support from Health Units, trails groups and the Ontario Road Builders Association among others.  To learn more, please visit Norm Miller's website or contact him via email or phone at 705-645-8538.

The Dufferin Trails and Active Transportation Master Plan will be a voted at the October 14th Council Meeting.

This is an important milestone in the continuing journey to establish a connected network of trails through the Headwaters and beyond because the Plan lays out a long-term implementation strategy to make it happen.
