PA Study 2011Landmark Study Finds Manufacturing is PA's Largest Economic Sector

A new statewide study, "Pennsylvania's True Commonwealth:  State of Manufacturing - Challenges and Opportunities" shows that manufacturing is still Pennsylvania's number one economic driver, accounting for the greatest portion of gross state product (13.6%), and ranking as the fourth largest provider of jobs. It has the highest multiplier effect and highest productivity of any sector in the state. Of particular note is job stability and job growth in the small-mid size firms during the great recession. The research team was led by one of the nation's foremost thought leaders on manufacturing, Dr. Edward W. Hill.  The report was created to determine exactly how manufacturing has impacted the Commonwealth, and to develop recommendations on what policymakers can do to improve the competitiveness of the industry.  Visit www.dvirc.org and download the Report.

Why should the rest of the accounting and finance function be any different?  While strong financial management is a critical success factor in any business, it is not necessarily a core competency to your company's strategy or business model.  As management guru Tom Peters said, "Do what you do best, and outsource the rest."
