Harry Image

Harry, what did he do to deserve this ? Rescued by the ACS in 2007.

It's Almost here !      ELECTION DAY.

Please show your Support !

It is now or never.

YES, you read that right. FRIDAY, 25th of Februrary 2011,   a date  not to be missed.

As many of our regular readers know, the Cork ACS has since its foundation tirelessly campaigned to our government for updated and humane animal welfare legislation. Our prime instrument of law is the hopelessly outdated 1911 Protection of Animals Act. That Act is now ONE CENTURY OLD THIS YEAR.

THIS CRUCIAL ANIMAL WELFARE ACT MUST BE REPLACED WITH HUMANE AND COMPASSIONATE LEGISLATION !  NOW is the time to make YOUR VOICE heard
Candidates for all political parties are desperate for your vote!
Please ask them where there party stands on this vital issue. Please do not be fobbed off by: Oh... we are working on. Working on it since 1911??
See our website for a ready made letter which you can put into their hands!

Campaign News &  and CALL TO ARMS.

PLEASE Help us to build a world in which there are no more "Harry's".

To our readers outside the Republic of Ireland we extend an apology. Due to the urgent nature of this "Call to Arms" we have not been able to edit out your email addresses. No, we do not expect you to hop on a plane or ferry and stand outside the parliament buildings. But we want you to know that there are people who care and care passionately about the fate and future of all animals who share this planet with us.  We believe that as a compassionate human being you need to know that we will leave no stone unturned until we have no more Harry's.

Fine Gael will reverse stag hunt ban

We are horrified to note that the Fine Gael  manifesto, includes a promise to reverse the ban on stag
hunting. Please join our urgent appeal to the party to scrap this pledge to
bring back a blood sport.

Elsewhere in the manifesto,
Fine Gael say that they will "update existing animal welfare rules which
are outdated and need to be reformed". If that is the case and they want
to improve and update animal welfare, they are off to a bad start by
threatening to repeal an act which has banned gratuitous cruelty to vulnerable
animals, which for over 150 years were hounded by dogs for "sport".

Stag hunting was banned last June after a majority of TDs voted in favour of the Wildlife Amendment Bill which outlawed the cruel activity. The ban was widely welcomed.

Any attempt to reverse the hunt ban would be a callous and despicable move by Fine Gael if they attain power. We have no doubt that the majority of people in this country would find this utterly abhorrent.

Election 2011     SUMMARY:

Fine Gael have promised to update the animal welfare legislation
while at the same time overturning the ban on carted stag hunting?

Labour voted against the stag hunting ban and some of their
members have pledged to introduce a ban on certain dog breeds if elected.

The dog breeding regulations ( Dog breeding Establishments Bill  has not been signed into law and there is still no new animal welfare legislation and no firm date by when it will be available. Tell the politicians calling at your door that we are tired to be compared to the backwaters of Europe and are ashamed to be Irish when it comes to the lack of humane animnal welfare legislation.

These issues are important to many people in this country and politicians must be made aware of this.

There is no point waiting until we have a banned list or stag
hunting is once again legal, we must act now!

Ask the questions on the doorstep, go to the constituency
offices, e-mail, write, make a noise, make a difference!

As the saying goes: For evil to triumph, it is only necessary for good people to remain silent.  Please Remember this: If YOU remain silent, you have lost your right to speak on their behalf.
