 The Killing Fields
The add you are looking at was placed by the ACS in space donated by The Irish Examiner Newspaper last Tuesday. It carries a simple stark message -
Last Year 14598 Dogs were Killed Off.
But wait.. that's the official figure. The unofficial one? At least double that number. At least!
The Dept of Environment statistics do not count the
ones drowned, abandoned in woods, thrown out of cars or handed in to be euthanised by Vets (the lucky ones!). And yet, day in day out, the killing goes on. Day in Day out rescue groups all over the country struggle to take them in, care and treat them and try to find homes for them.
The ACS, YOUR ACS, got space donated and ran this message on poster boards and bus shelters, 40 of them, all around the city urging people to help end this endless cycle of killing.
Are we active? You bet we are, the message is in frontof your eyes.

The Long Road to Happiness
Just look at him. One of the orphan kittens which the AC.S took over to the UK on a recent trip. They came from one of our fosterers (Sinead) who had cared for them but just like all of us she was getting overwhelmed with the endless requests for help.
So, once more, up on the from seat of the ambulance these little waifs travelled the Irish sea. Fed and cared for every 4 hours, all through the long night and the hundreds of miles to get them to their new UK Mum.
We just received these photos and as you can see, their new Mum, helped by an inquisitive good Shepherd, took over where we left off. Their small defenseless lives were our Passion and proof is before your very eyes. |
Illusion
To all our readers: Our July/ August eNewsletter carried
information about the wonderful offer made by Mrs. Brenda Gibson, author of her
book called "Illusion".
As we mentioned Brenda has kindly allowed the Cork ACS to
sell her books to benefit the charity. The price for this marvellous book is
only 12.99 Euro and not the normal 15 Euro price. Due to the way we worded
Brenda's super offer the idea might have been created that we were
selling the book for 15.00 minus 12.99 Euro, equalling 2.01 Euro. This is
clearly not the case, the paper alone is worth more than that.
Please accept
our sincere apologies if we gave that impression.
At 12.99 this book, personally
signed by the Author, is a steal and a must have for all Dog (and animal)
lovers. So...order your copy now, they will be going FAST and would make a
lovely (early) Christmas present.
We also made another boo boo, shame on us and
again our apologies to Brenda, the name of the Hero in the book is Fern and not
Deejay, who is another of Brenda's dogs. But.. we live in hope, maybe
Brenda will write a companion volume to " Illusion" telling us
all about DeeJay ?
"Illusion"
will be on sale from October: surely the ideal Christmas gift for ACS
supporters? To find out more about Brenda's book please visit her website www.adogtoinspire.co.uk

We are not alone
It is often said that for evil to triumph, it is only necessary
for good people to remain silent. All over the world are people, good
people, who will not remain silent. Kay McElroy is such a person. Her unbelievable
courage and will to make this world a better place for our animals is second to
none. You say that you are an animal lover ? Well, prove it: Click on this

Unite and Support ARAN on October 5th

You are needed. As our regular readers and website
visitors know, we have tirelessly campaigned over the years for the desperately
needed reform of our hopelessly outdated animal welfare legislation. (The 1911
Act ). The department of Agriculture is quietly working on new legislation. The
ARAN group is
calling on all animal lovers to attend a peaceful rally in Dublin on October
the 5th to show our politicians that we no longer want to stay
silent and condone the endless acts of cruelty and neglect to animals committed
in Ireland.
YOU can make a difference. We have never issued a call to our
supporters to attend but we do so now, please make YOUR voice heard.
Is giving up that one Sunday not a price worth paying to save countless lives?
Please support ARAN.
When: Sunday, October 5th 2008, 1:30 p.m.
Where: Garden of Remembrance (Please meet outside here)
Contact: John Carmody, Christina Lynch, Mary Cashin, Stephan Wymore or Shane Kiely 0876275579

The Hidden Dangers in Your Home?
For those of you who have Pets please have a careful read of
following hidden dangers.
Many of our beloved houseplants and flowers can
pose a real danger to our pets. For Instance, did you know that our beloved Lilies
are deadly to cats ? Same goes for the Amaryllis and the Cyclamen plants. But...there are many more.
Please click the links below, which will give you a
good idea of where the hidden dangers lie. It is the website for the Animal
Poison Control Centre in the USA, a true goldmine of knowledge on this subject.
This site has lots and lots of useful information on it and we urge you to
bookmark it after your visit.
Please do it now, it might one day save the
life of a Pet.

Billy Jean My name is Billy-Jean.
It was late when the phone rang and I answered. It was Tim, our Vet. "Yes
Tim, how can I help?" "We have a little kitten handed in to us with a request to put it down. It is in relative good condition but it needs care, I estimate it to be about 7 weeks."
I mentally did a very quick calculation, where in God's name to go with it ? The sanctuary is closed because of a virus outbreak and all our fosterers are full to capacity. But.. there was my bathroom?
"Ok Tim, I'll do it, can you hold it tonight and I'll pick it up first thing tmrw?" "Ok, will do and many many thanks, she is a real sweetie and very affectionate but badly needs worming, food and care."
Well, the rest is history and Billy-Jean is with me now. This photo was
taken after a long good cleaning session, our BJ must have spent her time in
a car engine ! But she is an ACS kitten now and like them all, her life is
now...Our Passion. To adopt an animal in need please click here
