Left to Die in a Ditch!
Look at their little faces. Happy puppies ? Yes, now they are. But not when they were found, simply left in a ditch. No food, no water, nothing.
Their age: 9 weeks or thereabouts. What in God's name do people think! Feed themselves, go do a bit of hunting at 9 weeks ??? These guys are barely able to make it without their mum. But Lady Luck smiled on these puppies, they are ACS puppies now and that will ensure their wellbeing and their future.
Help us take care of these little fellahs by donating what you can. Thank You! |
Cork Women's Mini Marathon - September 24th 2008

many more people JUST LIKE YOU who want to make
a difference in the lives of Corks abandoned animals.
Register online by visiting the Evening Echo website.
But don't delay contact us today for your ACS sponsor card or phone Didi on 086-2261402 or Terry on 087 9263190.

IT IS SAID THAT THE LOVE AND WORK PUT INTO A DOG IS REPAID A THOUSAND FOLD In
March last year, amongst the collection of unwanted, homeless dogs we rehomed to the UK was an 6-12month old retriever cross called Deejay. "Found wandering in a distressed condition in the countryside" Deejay eventually found his
forever home in Lincoln with Gordon and Brenda Gibson.
Since
then, Deejay has blossomed and is now ready for competitive agility and has even reached the Kennel Club Good Citizens Gold standards!
Learning
of our work, new "mum" Brenda resolved to help ACS. Now Brenda just
happens to be a writer, whose 240-page illustrated softback,
"Illusion" is currently on sale in bookshops.
"Illusion" tells the true story of a remarkable dog who triumphed
over repeated adversity, re-wrote the rules and "did it her way."
Brenda
is allowing us to sell her book directly to supporters at 12.99Euro below the
bookshop price of 15Euro and to keep all the money! She is willing to sign
every copy!
Albert
Kleyn, ACS Chairman, says of the book: "In one line ? This book is a must
read, if you love dogs and man's best friend, this is the book for
you. Brenda writes from the heart and DeeJay will capture your heart and
imagination, just like he did ours! Pre-Order your author signed copy today! "
And
here is a strange coincidence; a connection between Deejay and Fern, heroine of
"Illusion." Deejay
went home on April 29th. Fern was born on April 29th!
"Illusion"
will be on sale from October: surely the ideal Christmas gift for ACS
supporters? To find out more about Brenda's book please visit her website www.adogtoinspire.co.uk
| How Can I support the ACS? Simple with a Click of a Mouse!
The ACS has a partnership with ClickNow - the charity search engine, to help raise funds for our charity. When you are using the internet and searching for something online most of us use Google - because we always have...?
As an alernative to Googe and to raise funds for our charity we have adopted the ClickNow Search Engine to benefit us directly. We would like to ask you that you use the ClickNow search page and support us this way too. We will recieve a donation from each sponsored link used at no cost to you!
How do I get involved and help the Animal Care society online?
By using our bespoke search engine at the following address:
Remember, searching regularly with our ClickNow could generate an extra 1Euro per week, 4Euro per month, 50Euro per year per person - without you having to put your hand in your pocket!
What could be simplier?

Education Young Minds...
The Cork ACS has just concluded it series of visits to many Cork City libraries to participate in the City Library summer program. Two of our volunteers talked to the children and on what it takes to be a good Pet owner and how to care for your Pet properly.
Our visits were really well received and the enthusiasm of the kids was wonderful. With help of the great materials given to us by the Dogs Trust each of the participating children was able to go home with a set of materials to remind them of their visit and re-emphasise what they were told during our visit.
There is no doubt in our minds, those kids are the seed corn of the future and their enthusiasm gives us hope for a better future for our animals. |
Desperate Times
Don't they say that desperate times call for desperate measures ? Well, they do and proof is before your eyes. The Cork ACS is now working under such desperate overload conditions that we truly had no space to even give a home to a field mouse!
Bursting at the seams is not a bad way to describe what we are facing. Remember, very very few organisations will engage in cat rescue like we do at the ACS. We needed space and we needed it real bad and fast. So, we got it and the photo shows it "coming down from heaven".
We are planning to keep this portacabin for several months to help us weather the real cat/kitten crisis we are facing. To all our supporters who receive this eNewsletter, can you please help us with a small extra donation?
We now need to find another 140 euro each month to pay for this unit but we had no choice. Desperate times call for desperate measures and Their Lives are Our Passion. |
Meet the Team!
Here are some of the faces of the ACS'ers who you might come in contact with.
Anne, holding the two kittens, Sara, our cattery manager and animal coordinator, holding the single kitten, and Terry and Liz, taken in a "relaxed" moment. Terry is our treasurer and fundraiser coordinator and Liz manages our Togher charity shop.
Why not pop into our shop and have a chat we always welcome a kindred spirit AND remember we have a large and varied stock that suits all tastes and pockets!
We also need volunteers for the Togher
Shop, Monday and Tuesday afternoons from 1.30 to 4.30,
If anybody would be willing to help please contact us? The
shop has had a complete face lift and is open from 11.00 to 4.30, Daily, excluding Sundays and Bank
Holidays!

Raddles Story
As told by his rescuers Kay O'Brien & Marjorie Mullane
Raddles is a little white terrier with brown ears and lovely eyes. He stumbled into our lives around March 2007. He was hanging around where we work, pitifully thin, cold and terrified. He wouldn't come near us but desperately needed food.
We learned that his owner had died. No-one claimed responsibility for him - he was simply left to stray. He had made his home in an old bike shed in the garden, in fact that is probably where he had always lived. There was not even a bed for him, he had been sleeping on the damp concrete floor.
A bed was bought and food and a bit of company was provided and we carried on like this for a long time, gradually winning his love and trust while we tried to re-home him locally. For various reasons none of us could take him and nobody else would either.
Dreading the thought of him facing another winter in the shed I searched the Internet and came across the Animal Care Society. I wrote an e-mail and was delighted to get a reply offering help.
The happy ending came last Tuesday night when Raddles was taken in the dog ambulance across the sea to Dogs Trust in England. Now he is safe and warm and hopefully will not wait too long for a loving new owner.
We will miss him. God bless you all.
