Hello!

This months issue is jam packed with stories of what we, in the ACS, have been up to for the last month...and we have been quite busy as you will see - from saving so many unwanted kittens to convincing a cow she really is a cow and not a dog!!!!  You'll just have to read it to believe it...

We do hope you enjoy reading this month's issue as much as we do sharing just a small selection of our stories and the lives that cross our path on a daily basis!

PET EXPO THIS SUNDAY

This Saturday and Sunday is the long awaited Pet Expo exhibition in Mallow. Please come and meet us, shake hands, ask questions, see the people behind the stories. Our chairman is one of the speakers, you can meet him and hear him speak about animal welfare on Sunday morning.
Kittens June 08Kittens? Yes, Kittens Galore!

Look at them, just 3 weeks old, aren't they beautiful? Wouldn't you say that a bright future awaits them? You'd be both right and wrong...

Without the Animal Care Society their future would be short and dreadful. Tens of thousands of kittens are born each and every year, but born only to die. Die in ways too horrible to describe here. These won't. Why?  Because they are ACS kittens, that's why. The Cork Animal Care Society is proud of its name and these little ones are the living proof.

Please help us spread the word, get your cat spayed, spread the word, we are overloaded with unwanted kittens just like these. Together we hold to the key to their future.
And Down the Road We Go...

If a vehicle could have an autopilot this one should. Back and forth to the UK, via the Irish Ferries, ACS Ambulance JuneIsle of Innishmore. THREE almost back to back trips in June, in less than 10 days! Close on 3000 miles driving...the last trip taking 32 kittens and one mum to safety..(No... not all hers, in case you wonder, we deal in lives, not in miracles). ACS Ambulance June

Sadly, there were no homes here in Ireland and yet again our UK friends came to our rescue.

We in the ACS have for the last 8 years received the most wonderful support from our friends and supporters in the UK. Over the preceding years, one lady alone took almost 380 cats and kittens from us. Three Hundred and Eighty! The amount of dogs we brought over?? We lost count, so very many. We practice what we preach and our track record is a proud one as our UK contacts know all too well.

If you think you can offer one of our lodgers a good home please contact us today.

B&B

ACS Ambulance JuneNo... not the place where your next weekend break will take you. Meet Buster and Breaker, the A team boys. Again, our website has their full story.  Torn away from their Mum, barely 5 weeks old, if that, and up for sale to the highest bidder.

Great isn't it? No, not really! That is what we get for living in a country with no proper animal welfare legislation.

ACS Ambulance JuneWe, in the ACS, have for the last 8 years been campaigning endlessly for better legislation. Sometimes we think that if they see another letter with our name in Dublin somebody moans and says:...Please No, not another one! Our answer? Yes, another one and by God, you're get more till we have achieved our goal.  DECENT up-to-date enforceable animal welfare legislation, for those of you with an interest, and we hope you all do, please go to:

PLEASE DO THIS. Make your voice heard. If you love animals, help us to give them the protection they so desperately need. Please?
Meet Moomey the Playful Cow!

Hang on you say... that is a Cow?? Yes, damn right and a big one at Mooney the Playful Cowthat! Moomey the cow probably hits the scales close on 500kg. As we have said many times, no, we don't just deal in cats and dogs. The ACS is truly proud of its name.  We are proud and so should you be, we are what we say we are.  The ANIMAL Care Society.

Moomey was born prematurely and the farmer simply said: Leave her there in the yard, she is as good as dead anyway. For Moomey, t'was a good thing that "advice" was ignored. She was brought indoors, rubbed with warm towels and fed, with great difficulty we hasten to add. Having a cow next to your bed isn't anybody's cup of tea. Well, we fast forward now and look her now.

Mooney The Cow that thinks shes a dog!God help us, we have a cow who thinks she is a dog, she wants to sit, believe it or not, by the fire!!!!!!, all of her 500 kilo's, wants to play with you... and if she bumps into you, rest assured, you will have the bruises to show for it.

So... the Animal Care Society? Yep, that's who we are. Just ask Moomey, she will tell you.
Our Princess

PrincessMeet Princess.  She was at our vet today for an X-ray and thorough examination. The news?  A small glimmer of hope.

As you may know, Princess is paralysed from the waist down but that did not stop this unbelievable brave cat from giving birth to 4 beautiful kittens. God only knows how she did it, we don't, the vets don't, only she does and when we ask her, she only purrs and won't tell us.
 Princess
After 14 years in unbroken animal welfare you think that you have seen most of it, but this bravery and care for her babies has no match, none that we have ever encountered. Our cattery manager who named her, choose right, she is a true Princess and the Queen of our hearts.

Please help us with her bills, use our website to
donate a few Dollars, Euro's, Yen, Rubbles, whatever you care to share. It will go to her care. She truly deserves it.

Please see our
website for Princess's complete story.
4th Annual ACS Golf Classic 2008!

The sun was warm, the grass green, the wind was light and those golfers On the Golf Course June 2ndhad a "ball" (No pun intended).  Once again we held our 4th ACS Golf Classic and what a super event it was in Blarney, at the Ramada Golf and Leisure Resort.

A super day was had by all, and thanks to the fantastic support from our Corporate Sponsor, an Opel Astra Twin Top convertible, Golf Prizewas up for grabs...that's if you were good enough to take the 13th hole in one!

The ACS wishes to pay tribute and extend its gratitude to AFA O'Meara who kindly sponsored this fantastic prize and Johnson and Perrott, Opel and Mercedes dealers in Cork, who provided this beauty of a car for all to be admired.

And You Thought Animal Welfare Was Easy?...

Our eNews which you are reading is meant to be informative and we hope you agree that it is. But for those of you who think that animal welfare is easy we would like to share just ONE phonecall we received very recently. Just ONE. Here follows a verbose transcript of that call:

CALLER: " Hello, is that the Animal Care Society? I have 5 kittens here and I want you to come and take them away in the next hour."
ACS RESPONSE: "We are completely full, can you give us a few days, maybe a week?"

CALLER:
"No, I cannot wait that long, I will just put them into the septic tank."

Silence....

ACS RESPONSE:
"You will do WHAT?"

CALLER:
"I will put them into the septic tank, I have been doing that for the last 40 years..."

Ask yourself just this ONE question, how would you cope with a call like that? Do you still think Animal Welfare is easy?  It's our people who take these calls, who are made to feel guilty when they cannot offer immediate help, day in day out, they are used and abused by people who simply do not respect life.

ACS have pledged their lives to protect animals in need, have you got any idea what a call like that does to them? Still think it is easy?

Meet  an Angel

ACS Ambulance JuneLook at her 6, now 7 weeks old.  Abandoned, left to die. Why is it that people can simply discard one of God's living creatures like this? Why? We do not know. She is with her foster Mum now and the care this little waif receives has to be seen to be believed.

ACS Ambulance JuneWe could write a whole page about her, but space does not permit so. She embodies what we in the Cork ACS stand for: Their Lives...Our Passion. With our help and your support many more Angels will be given a chance to grace our lives.

Cork Animal Care Society would like to thank everyone who has supported our cause in the past, however, we need your continued support to help us improve animal welfare practices in Cork City, County and nationwide! The key to making this happen is a regular source of income. PLEASE help us in one of the following ways:

Bank of Ireland, Wilton, Cork.
Account Name: Animal Care Society Deposit Account
Account No.: 22060688
Sort Code: 90-28-05

Your support saves lives. Be part of something positive!
