A Milestone Reached

Well, here it is and you are reading it. Our first eNewsletter ever produced. Those of you who have seen our last 12 page hardcopy newsletter know that we are embarking on a lot of new ACS projects for this coming year. This is one of them, our eNewsletter so that we can get those of you on email/internet better and quicker informed. But for this to be a success we need your input. We want to know what it is you would like to read about. Rescue Stories, animal welfare news in general, updates on how the ACS is doing, Pets needing homes, whatever. So, take to your keyboard and email your editor, you comments are very welcome at [email protected]
Just a quick reminder to all ACS members if you haven't renewed your membership for this year please do so - we need your support more than ever! (members who have recently joined/renewed please ignore this reminder).
Oh.. by the way our totally new website will be on-line soon, the next newsletter will keep you informed.

Hiya Folks. in the coming months our sanctuary in Doneraile will be relocating. Lots of work is underway to find a suitable location for a new sanctuary. That’s not as easy as it may sound, we need to be away from housing, not too far away from Cork City and the place must have the ability to be adapted and allowfor our planned growth. And before I forget, we must be able to afford it (AND persuade the Bank that we can and we all know what Banks think!) Not an easy task by any means.

We have looked at several properties and two are showing some promise but we will look for a while longer before we make any final decision on a purchase. Lots of questions have arisen; shall we do commercial boarding on site? Will it be a combined Cat/Dog (and other animals) Sanctuary? You can see, all these points have a bearing on what we will eventually choose..We need to get this right first time, so the saying “less haste, more speed” is very appropriate here. But right we will get it and the Cork ACS will eventually have a facility of which all of you our staunch supporters can be proud. So, hang on in there, we’ll keep you posted on progress and if any of you has a very friendly Bank Manager (animal lover) as a pal/wife/husband/partner we’d love to know about it!

The submission deadline for members of the public to comment on the Recommendations of the working Group to review the management of Dog Breeding establishments closed on 16th December 2005. We understand that Minister Dick Roche has received many submissions from concerned members of the public who want to see these recommendations implemented without further delay. As soon as we have more news we will share it, this subject is of vital importance to stem the ever growing tide of the so-called “ Puppy Farms”.
We urge you to make your views know to your local TD, it’s only with your help that we can stamp out this evil trade which causes so much suffering.

Cinnamon was thrown over a bridge into a river here in county Cork. But as luck would have it, this kitten landed on a tiny ledge just above the water. His cries and meows for help were reported to an ACS volunteer who managed to get the kitten with considerable danger to herself, she can’t swim and the river is wide and deep. After 5 months of the best care this now beautiful young cat is ready for his own permanent home. Can you help show him that there are more kind and caring humans out there?
If you can offer Cinnamon a loving home why not contact us on 021-4551781 or email [email protected]
Did you know that the Dog Trust pilot scheme which offers neutering and spaying for dogs has been indefinitely extended? If you know of somebody on means tested social welfare whose dog(s) have not been spayed/castrated get them to call the Trust low cost line on 1-890-946-336. For 14 Euro this must be the very best deal ever. Please help spread the word on this fantastic offer.
Do you have a place in your home and heart for a Pet? It goes without saying that we are in desperate need of homes. We simply have never enough and without good homes many animals face a very uncertain plight. Where else are you going to get unconditional love and a welcome whenever you come home. (No.. they won’t borrow the car keys, want more pocket money or a new X box console). All they want is a person to love and be loved in return, don’t we humans so very much want the same ?
