  • Fall has arrived in my hometown of Chicago, and I celebrated it with my annual apple picking trip to Michigan. It's an event I look forward to every year because I always go with a group of great friends and their kids. We enjoy the fall air, the apple cider, the apple donuts (we special order them in advance!) and the apple picking itself. It's a terrific way to begin the season!

Festival season is winding down so I hope those of you who can get to the remaining shows will come out and say hi - it's always great to meet new and old friends on the road!

    Peace,
    Nick

Smooth Views concert review- Kettle Moraine Jazz Festival

Nick recently headlined the Kettle Moraine Jazz Festival and the evening was stellar - here's an excerpt from Anne Aufderheide's review:

"It's been awhile since I've attended such a high energy show, and a long while since I've witnessed one with a standing ovation for every single song."

    What Nick's Been Up To

September was a terrific month for touring - Nick and the band began the month at the Kettle Moraine Jazz Festival, a two day fest held in West Bend, WI, outside of Milwaukee. This festival draws huge crowds and the audience for Nick's headline performance on Saturday night was amazing (see the review from SmoothViews.com above). Many thanks to the West Bend Sunrise Rotary Club, John Ertl and Dave Amoroso for a tremendously good time!

Next up was the Wilson Creek Winery in Temecula, CA, where Nick co-headlined with good friend Marion Meadows. This venue has changed dramatically since Nick was there two years ago, with a new stage and a new multi-purpose functions building, but the outstanding hospitality hasn't changed at all. Many thanks to Bill and Jennifer Wilson and Betty and Corky Bennish.

The end of the month found Nick and the band in Fayetteville, NC for WFSS's Third Annual Jazz On The River concert. Opening up the show was popular, Atlanta-based jazz violinist Ken Ford, followed by keyboard wizard Alex Bugnon. The audience was primed and ready when Nick took the stage and the beautiful natural amphitheatre setting and the starlit night made for a great concert evening. Special thanks to Ron Martin and Karen Andrews (and Dionne D!) for bringing Nick to this wonderful city.

September closed out with Nick co-headlining with Boney James at the Atlanta Smooth Jazz Festival at the Mable House/Barnes Amphitheatre. This is one of Nick's favorite venues and the Atlanta audiences are so receptive he falls in love with them every time he performs there! This show was no exception. Joe Cleveland and Tony Clarke - thank you!

    Smooth Music Cruise
    nickandmindi.jpg

Want to experience the energy of great artists like Nick and Mindi Abair on stage together? It's something you'll see every night on the 2009 Smooth Music Cruise as Nick hosts the Jam Sessions! Joining him on stage will be Mindi and all the other artists on the cruise. And believe us when we say you never know what will happen - Ms. Abair blew the place apart last time she was on the jam (on the 2005 cruise) when she launched into Thelonius Monk's classic "Straight, No Chaser"...and that's just the kind of incredible spontaneity you'll get every night on board the Celebrity Centuryl.

Nick and host Norman Brown hope to see you on board as they and the stellar line-up of artists put on the greatest shows and provide the best entertainment you're likely to see on land OR on sea! For info and some great pricing visit the link below....
