May is going to be very exciting for me - my new single "NO LIMITS" from my new CD of the same name on KOCH Records will be going to radio at the end of the month for adds. It's very "me" - upbeat, funky with a lot of energy. Releasing my first single off the project is something I've been looking forward to since I began it. I am very grateful to KOCH Records who told me to make the record I wanted to make...and I did! "No Limits", the CD, is as close to my live performances as I can get and it was so much fun to do. It has a street date of July 8 so I kick off the summer tours with a new CD and a new show. Wow! Well, the tour season is in gear so I'll be seeing you soon on the road!
Peace,
Nick looking towards the future!!! Photo by Kickin' With Nick member Funeka
NICK COLIONNE ENTERS INTO NEW TERRITORY
WITH HIS NEW ALBUM, NO LIMITS, TO BE RELEASED
JULY 8th, 2008
COLIONNE NAMED 2007 INTERNATIONAL
INSTRUMENTAL ARTIST OF THE YEAR AT THE
CANADIAN SMOOTH JAZZ AWARDS!
(New York, NY) - KOCH Records is please to
announce the release of guitarist and
vocalist Nick Colionne's new album No Limits
to be released July 8th, 2008. His exciting
blend of jazz, funk, R&B and a touch of the
blues combined with his rich singing voice
and engaging stage personality make him a
constant crowd favorite.
Colionne joined the ranks of today's premiere
jazz artists with his 2004 album Just Come On
In, which included the mega-hits "High
Flyin'" and "It's Been Too Long" which hit #2
(and top 10 for the year) and #16 on the R&R
Smooth Jazz Chart, respectively.
Colionne is a guitarist and vocalist whose
"live" performances defy categorization. His
shows incorporate all the music he loves best
and the influences he's had throughout his
career, from jazz to R&B to funk to blues.
You're as likely to hear Nick sing the blues
as you are to hear his blazing jazz licks, or
even the occasional hint of metal, recalling
the beginning of his career as a heavy metal
guitarist. He has taken that diverse
musicality and run with it on No Limits,
creating an album that is both unique and
varied.
His most recent album, Keepin' It Cool,
propelled him to the top of the charts once
again with the single "Always Thinking of
You" which stayed on the R&R charts for an
incredible 45 weeks and was also top 10 for
the year.
Colionne titled the new album No Limits to
describe where he is at in terms of his music
saying "the project No Limits is my latest
adventure. I call it an adventure because I
wanted to explore doing some different things
with my music and not limit myself to one
genre or style of playing." Colionne teamed
up with two Grammy-award winning
writers for
the album: Jim Peterik who wrote "The Eye of
The Tiger," the theme from the film Rocky,
and Paul Richmond who wrote "Shining Star"
for The Manhattans.
From the upbeat title track to the dreamy
"Headin' Wes Before Dawn" and
Brazilian-feeling "Ports of Call" to the
dance infused "Steppin' Back," No Limits is
an album that has something for everyone.
Colionne explores new genres and sounds to
create an album both diverse and limitless.
Chuck Mitchell, KOCH Records VP of Jazz and
Adult Music comments, "We're proud to be
working with Nick Colionne, who has become
one of the freshest and most soulful
contemporary jazz artists in recent times.
He's just coming into his full musical power
as a guitarist and vocal stylist, and we're
looking forward to being with him as he takes
his place at the top of the jazz charts and
beyond."

Nick's last newsletter highlighted the great time he had at the Berks Jazz Festival. If you haven't read it you can visit Nick's website, www.nickcolionne.com, and click on "Archives" on the home page to read it and previous newsletters. The Seabreeze Jazz Festival was a blast. This four day spectacular is known for its amazing line-up and this year was no exception - all stops were pulled out for the 10th Anniversary of this nationally known event. Nick hosted their first-ever Jam Session on Thursday night to a packed lawn audience with his band and some great guests (Joyce Cooling, Shilts, Four80 East, Matt Marshak, Steve Cole, Jeff Kashiwa, Slim Man and more!). The crowd loved every minute, the interaction between the artists was incredible and the weather was perfect. What a night.
Friday was a busy day for Nick - up early in
the a.m. with road manager Tom Clark
and Seabreeze station owner Mark Carter, he
was in the
t.v. studio in Panama City for a live
interview at 6 a.m.! Next it was off to a
local school for the performing arts, where
Nick conducted a clinic for the kids. He and
they had a great time!
Friday night Nick, who was Festival Host,
capped off an evening that featured new
singer Nyee Moses followed by super-hot band
Four80 East with special guest Shilts with
his special brand of energy, music, funk and
fun and it was a truly great night in Florida
for music! One of the most enjoyable
aspects of this festival is that there's
actually time to socialize a bit! Nick met
up with musical friends ranging from other
artists to fan club members to music biz
folks, and even had time to go shopping with
Melanie Maxwell, publisher of Smooth
Jazz News and Debbie Pinsky of JazzFest
Travel! Thanks to Mark
and Renee Carter
at WSBZ 106.3 FM "The Seabreeze" for putting
on such a great festival, which is moving to
a great new location in 2009 - The Pier
Park Amphitheater in Panama City Beach, FL. Next, Nick headed to Cleveland to be part of Jason Miles' show (thx Jay!) "The Music of Marvin Gaye and Motown" at the Tri City Jazz Festival. This show featured guest artists doing Marvin and Motown tunes (Maysa, Walter Beasley, Kevin Mahogany and Bobby Caldwell were fellow participants) and the reviewer from the Cleveland Plain Dealer had nice things to say about Nick: "Fiery performances elevated other highlights into the realm of the sublime, including guitarist Nick Colionne's flashy version of "I Heard It Through the Grapevine"." Pretty cool!!!!! photo of Nick enjoying his host duties at the Seabreeze Jazz Festival courtesy Jean from Citysounds.com
Carrie, the president of Nick's amazing fan club Kickin' With Nick, has put up a new web blog for Nick fans, whether they are fan club members or not. Check it out! The address is www.kickinwithnick.wordpress.com. Kickin' Members - be sure and sign up for this great new community that's all things Nick and you!!! Photos, videos, and a special section for member contributions and dialog are all part of the Kickin' web blog experience. If you're a jazz fan but not a member of Kickin' WIth Nick, joining is a great idea - you get Nick's first CD, "It's My Turn", $15 if purchased separately but free with your first year membership of $15 for individuals, $25 for couples. Plus you get a personally autographed Nick photo and other goodies, and private meet-and- greet opportunities at Nick's shows. Kickin' members are fun folks and many friendships have developed within the membership as a result. Not to brag, but one of our Kickin' members who is also a member of other fan clubs says Kickin' is the best, the most fun and the friendliest. We think so, too! You can use PAYPAL to join up on the blog website, it couldn't be easier.
Nick, the band and the team would like to congratulate the very lovely and multi-talented Jan Julian, Promotions and Media Relations Director for WGRV "The Groove" in Melbourne, FL (twice nominated as Station of the Year by Radio & Records), on her most recent accomplishment. Jan, in addition to assisting Station Manager Randy Bennett in all things "The Groove", is also an experienced pilot who has just been promoted from First Officer to Captain with American Eagle Airlines! Nick and the team are delighted for Jan, and very happy that she will be based in Chicago this summer so somewhere in between her flight schedule and Nick's tour schedule there's a definite "hang" coming (and maybe if Randy is extra nice to Jan she'll bring him up for it!!) Congratulations, Jan! photo of Jan, Nick and Randy taken at the WGRV "The Groove" New Year's Party, 2007 by Carol Ray
Hot news! New pricing has been announced for the 2009 Smooth Music Cruise. Nick was honored to be the subject of the "How
We Entertain" section with an article
entitled "Nick Colionne: A Man On A Musical
Mission" in the Spring/Summer 2007 edition of
"How We
Live", a glossy lifestyle magazine whose
mission statement is to be "A Showcase of
African-American Homes, Décor, Style &
Careers". When he was asked late last year
to contribute
a photo
and a few words about his own favorite room
he was happy to comply, but never thought his
selection would be chosen to appear in the
special bonus publication accompanying the
Winter/Spring edition, the annual "Buyer's
Guide -
2007, The Year In Review" which has a
special article "Get An Insider's Peek At How
Celebrities Live". Why? Because his
favorite room is his
recording studio and he just knew it wouldn't
make the cut among the elegant rooms sure to
be featured. Imagine his delight when he
opened the magazine and saw his studio in
living color, along with a spot-on narrative
describing why it was so special to him.
Many thanks to Dana Tucker, Publisher and
Editor in Chief, for highlighting Nick's
studio and for recognizing that to a
recording artist with a passion, his studio
IS the most inspiration place in his home! This casually elegant magazine is distributed thru WalMart, Barnes and Noble, Bi-Lo Food Stores, B. Dalton Book Stores and numerous independent stores, or you can subscribe directly through their website, listed below. You owe yourself a look at this quality magazine.
