Nick's Notes for Kids
April 2008
This Month's Topic: Instruments Hey Hey, guess who's finished with my new cd "No Limits"? Yes, I am back and maybe, just maybe, these newsletters can stop being tardy. LOL This time I am going to answer a question that I received from a young man named Miles in Pennsylvania, who plays guitar, trumpet and piano. He is 8 years old. Miles asked: "Is it better to learn on acoustic or electric guitar?" That is a good question...My thought on it is that you should learn on an instrument that is comfortable and affordable to you and your family. If you are learning guitar don't try to get the biggest prettiest guitar in the store - get one that fits your hand and body, something that you can sit or stand with and be comfortable. As you grow you can just about play anything with ease and even then you want to find guitars or whatever instrument you play that sound the way you want them to and are comfortable for you to play. Make sure when choosing an instrument that you can reach around the neck without being uncomfortable (if you are playing Guitar or Bass ). When you are practicing you should be relaxed and not be all contorted. Remember we are playing music and not joining the circus so we don't need to be bent out of shape. .. BIG LAUGH! Also, we are getting close to the end of the school year. I hope those grades are good, you have a little more time to pull them up. Remember that this education you are getting now will help you in your musical career and in life, so take time to study those books along with the music you practice. The days of being a star with no education are over. YOU NEED THE STUFF YOU LEARN IN SCHOOL and that is no joke! I want to thank Miles for his question and I look forward to others. As the title of my new project says there are
NO LIMITS
to what you can be so, be the all that you
can be and
the best that you can be.
