What do Nick, a Blue Man, an Astronaut and a Hollywood Director Have in Common?Sunday, October 7 at the Preston Bradley Hall in Chicago from 7-10 pm there will be a Benefit & Celebrity Auction - "Lunch in the Limelight", with the proceeds going to the Franklin Fine Arts Center, a Chicago magnet elementary school for the visual and performing arts. The Auction is being run by The Friends of Franklin, a non-profit organization, so the winning bid is tax deductible! Their mission is to raise funds and provide community resources and support for Franklin Fine Arts Center, located in Chicago's Old Town neighborhood. This small inner-city magnet school serves 368 children from all over the city with 40% at or below poverty level, yet Franklin has been recognized as one of the Top 20 schools in Chicago by Chicago Magazine! Lunch with various celebrities will be bid on, with the winner being treated to lunch with the artist they "win". Nick is delighted to be part of this effort to provide resources to a school in need that focuses on academics AND the performing arts. If you would like to bid on line to help the school and have lunch with Nick, please click on the link below. Bidders outside of the Chicago area can choose to have lunch (or possibly supper, depending on the schedule for that date) with Nick when he comes to a venue near them...the prize does not have to be redeemed until June 2008. All rules and regs as mentioned on the Lunch in the Limelight website (www.lunchinthelimelight.com) apply, of course!
Nick's newest single from his chart-topping CD "Keepin' It Cool" is the title track, and is at radio now. It's signature Nick, with a great groove and that touch of funk that only Nick can provide. Contact your favorite radio station and make sure they know you want to hear "Keepin' It Cool".

Nick and the beautiful Grand Teton Mountains, Jackson Hole, Wyoming. photo by Dolores Ann The first day of September saw Nick off to the Showplace Arena in Upper Marlboro, MD, where he, Bobby Caldwell and Norman Brown's Summer Storm closed out the Second International Metropolitan Jazz Festival. Emmett Roberts, CEO/COO of Shortcake Entertainment Group, with the Prince George's County Chamber of Commerce in full support, put on one heck of a party. September 6 found Nick at the Herberger Theatre in Phoenix, AZ, delivering a lecture on the business of jazz and performing with the student jazz band for Arizona State University in the "Jazz Lecture Series". Phoenix. Before his lecture, Nick played with a trio of extremely talented young musicians (Chris Peña on keys, Brady Putzke, bass and Jason Adams, drums), all jazz students at ASU studying with Michael Kocour, Director of Jazz Studies. Special thanks to Hassan Abdul-Kareem for producing this very special event . To see excerpts of Nick performing with the ASU students b>, visit Nick's YouTube page, via the link in the You Tube article later in this email. Sacramento, CA was was a blast, when Nick and Boney James played to a sold-out crowd at the Guzzetta Grove on the property of the Radisson Hotel. The Smooth Jazz 94.7 KSSJ Summer Series event brought the audience to its feet with a high energy evening that left everyone wanting more. Thanks to PD Lee Hansen for introducing Nick to Sacramento audiences - they are great! Next up was a private event in Chicago (thanks Carolyn!) which Nick and the band had a great time at. ThenNick performed at Ken Bedford's ABCAP "Anaia's Breast Cancer Awareness Program" Benefit in Chicago, helping to raise money for a cause close to him and his family. A visit to Jackson Hole, Wyoming was up next, for a performance at the Jackson Hole Golf & Tennis Country Club to a celebrity-studded audience. The scenery was fantastic and the hospitality was great. Thanks to Bruce Pollock for showing Nick the Real West! Rounding out the month was the Jazz Cafe, Charlotte, North Carolina, a beautiful club with a great audience. Thanks to Tammy Greene for a really special evening.
Nick has some new videos up on You Tube that you can view. The first is of his performance with the student jazz band from ASU, and the second is an interview with him that features some of "his" kids from St. Laurence K-8 School where he has mentored for many years. If you want to know what kind of an impact he's had on the kids, this is the video for you!
