Contemporary Jazz Guitarist Nick Colionne Named "International Instrumentalist of the Year"

Honors at the Third Annual Canadian Smooth
Jazz
Awards Ceremony televised live, Friday, April 27
from the Living Arts Centre, Mississauga, Ontario. In
addition to Colionne,
nominees for the International
Instrumentalist Artist of the Year award
were Gerald Albright, Rick Braun, Brian
Culbertson
and Wayman Tisdale. Last year's winner of the
award in this category was Trumpeter Chris Botti.
Says Colionne, "Being nominated alongside my
fellow artists/friends was a tremendous honor, and I
am thrilled to receive this prestigious award".
Colionne also performed live and presented the
String Instrumentalist of the Year award.
Also honored were Sypro Gyra who received the
George Benson Lifetime Achievement award (and
who performed live at the ceremony), Al Jarreau in
the International Vocalist of the Year category, and
Warren Hill (who also performed live) took home the
Wind Instrumentalist of the Year award for the
Canadian nominees. Performers for the night
included Brian Culbertson,
Maysa, David Pack and
Alexander Zonjic, among others.

More About Nick Colionne
Nick's star is shinning brightly. Nick was named as
a TOP TEN Contemporary Jazz Artist of 2006
by Radio & Records (R&R) and Smooth Jazz News.
His current Narada Jazz Release, "Keepin' It Cool"
received rave reviews around the world and was a
TOP TEN CD of 2006. Nick's smash hit
single, "Always
Thinking of You" reached TOP TEN
on Billboard, R&R, Jazz Trax and more, and was the
#1 Contemporary Jazz Single of 2006 on the Radio
Waves Chart (global Internet Airplay).
Colionne's busy 2007 Tour Schedule includes
performances in approximately 35 different US cities
as well as Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean.
In
addition to his radio and
touring successes, he's also quite the
humanitarian. Colionne is a member of 100
Black Men of America, a prominent youth
mentoring organization, and was the recipient
of the Malcom X College Alumnus of the year
award. He is in his 11th year of donating his
time and energy to children in the
Chicagoland area teaching music and
organizing school productions in
neighborhoods where he has come to know
both the students and their parents as he
brings his special talents and warm
demeanor to the community. Also well-liked
and respected among his peers, Nick
Colionne is an artist with a heart. His
personal causes include breast cancer
awareness and sickle cell research, having
had members of his own family touched by
both conditions.
