MTW WINS A CIVIES AWARD!
By: Tracy Civies Awards

More Than Words won the 2011 Civies Award for Leadership! The Civies Awards are given to honor youth who have made a difference in their communities. I went to the awards dinner with Meghan and Jill and we saw lots of performances and speakers, including the president of the NAACP. We want to thank everyone who voted for us. We are really honored to have received this award!

BOSTON CARES ABOUT MTW

By: ChrisPainting in Boston

On July 25th, 13 volunteers from Boston Cares spent the day painting, cleaning, and building furniture in our Boston location. Their hard work will help us get ready to support Boston youth!  Their efforts prove how dedicated they are to helping more youth take charge of their lives by taking charge of  business. We want to thank Boston Cares for all of their hard work. We really appreciate it!
VETERAN SPOTLIGHT: RICHARD
By: Richard
Richard - vet spotlightMy name is Richard and I'm a Veteran of MTW. Before MTW, money was tight and I wasn't really focused on moving my life forward. When I started working at MTW, I learned just how much hard work goes into running a bookstore. The part that I enjoyed the most was working in the cafe and interacting with customers. When I transitioned, MTW helped me get an Externship at Bentley College that I really enjoyed. I also just finished summer school. I'll be starting my senior year of high school in about a month and am looking forward to graduating.

SOLUTIONS TO DRESSING FOR SUCCESS
By: She'Davia

More Than Words weDress for Successnt on site visits to  Solutions Wear and Dress For Success. These organizations are nonprofits dedicated to helping people get clothes for interviews, and they helped us do exactly that. This was an extremely good learning experience about what an interview outfit is supposed to be. Both organizations had a wide range of designer clothes to choose from. I received a suit, shirt, shoes, a purse, and jewelery! I was extremely excited to receive these clothes. I know that I will now be able to make a good impression at any interview. Thank you to Tracy Carter from Solutions Wear and Dorian Golub from Dress for Success for helping to prepare us for any job that comes our way!

MARRIOTT SITE VISIT

By: Jill

Marriott logo
On our recent site visit, the Transitions shifts took a tour of the Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Waltham. Throughout the tour, we got a lot of information about the employment expectations for the many different positions. Overall, reliability and punctuality are the most crucial because the Marriott is open and running 24 hours a day. The employee on shift will have to cover if another is late or doesn't show. Hearing that made me really appreciate how everyone at MTW respects punctuality. We would like to thank Robert Clement, the President and C.O.O., and Melissa Gagnon, the Front Office Manager for setting up a great site visit!

What is Transitions at MTW? Also known as the YOU job, Transitions is the time we devote to working on our personal goals surrounding our education, employment, and self-efficacy. To learn more, click here.

ACQUIRING 12,000 BOOKS!!!
By Jill
12,000 Amazing Books
We want to thank Acquired Books for helping us move our business forward! They donated all of the books in their store inventory to MTW. Four members on  our team picked up 12,000 books!! The donation helped us pass our daily inventory receiving goal by hundreds! It was also a huge help for opening our second site. It was a pleasure getting to know Carol Johnson! We really appreciate it and hope to see her again soon.
Thanks for catching up on MTW! Make sure to stop by for our great events and a refreshing iced latte!
