BUILDING IMPACT MAKES A HUGE IMPACT ON MTW!Building Impact
By: Yuri

Building Impact is an organization that connects volunteers in their workplaces with nonprofits in their community so that they can give back. Building Impact came to More Than Words in April to donate more than 5,000 books!!! They had 40 buildings host boxes in their lobbies and 26 companies held drives within their offices! This will b
e a huge help as we open our second site in Boston. We are so grateful for their help and support and want to give a HUGE thank you to Building Impact and all of the businesses for helping us move our lives forward!
VET SPOTLIGHT: FRANCIS
By: Francis
Francis
My name is Francis and I'm a Veteran of MTW. Before I came to MTW, I was getting in a lot of trouble, became court involved, and wasn't going to school. While I was at MTW, I really enjoyed getting work experience. I learned how to give excellent customer service and how to be professional, and got my GED. I really appreciated all of the love at More Than Words. They helped me get the things I needed in life and helped me stay on track. When I transitioned, I got an internship at a hotel and now I just got a job at Bentley College. I'm working hard on my education. Education is very important to me now because I know that having an education can take you far in life.

MTW CHECKS OUT COLLEGES!

YOUTH-RUN SCHOOL TOUR AT MCC

By: Mark

I led aMiddlesex Community College tour through my school, Middlesex Community College, to my fellow youth employees on April 7th during Transitions. Many of the youth working at MTW are in high school or have their GED so they're looking forward to college. During my tour, I explained the different majors and opportunities that the school offers. I showed them all around the school and they learned a lot about what a college campus is like compared to an average high school. Everyone was very motivated with their education plan and excited to plan for a brighter future!

YOUTH-LED TOUR AT BUNKER HILL

By: YuriBunker Hill Community College

MTW went on a site visit to Bunker Hill Community College, where I currently go to school, so I led the tour. I showed everyone the main entrance, then took them in to see the lounge area, then the huge, 3 story library. I also showed them the computer lab and math lab, where students work on homework. The next 2 areas I showed are 2 of the most important places on campus: the Career Center and the Placement Test Center. Bunker Hill's Career Center really impresses me! Everyone learned a lot about all of the support services that colleges can offer students.

WOMEN TAKING THE LEAD AT PINE MANOR

By: IsabelPine Manor College

During spring break, we went to visit Pine Manor, an all women's college. The first thing I noticed was how beautiful the campus was. I learned that they offer some interesting majors such as psychology, economics, and biology. One of the cool things about Pine Manor is that if you want to take a class that isn't offered, you can still study what you want! Through their independent study and study abroad programs, students can get an education in practically anything they want. We want to thank Whitney Retalliac for setting up a great site visit!

HANDS-ON LEARNING AT BFIT

By: Jorge
BFIT
On April 19th, we went on a site visit to the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology (BFIT). It it a college where you can earn either an Associates Degree or a Bachelors Degree. They showed us all of the different classrooms and we learned about all of the programs they offer. They even have a fully functional garage where students get hands-on experience fixing cars. We would like to thank Brittany Johnson and BFIT for a great tour!

NORTHEASTERN LEARNING

Northeastern Site VisitBy: Yuri

We went on a site visit last week to Northeastern University. Northeastern gave us a big orientation, explaining their mission and admission requirements. It is a very competitive school. Northeastern is a Division 1 school and has over 15 sports for each gender. They also have internship and study abroad programs worldwide. We would like to thank Jeremy Daly for setting up a great site visit!

What is Transitions at MTW? Also known as the YOU job, Transitions is the time we devote to working on our personal goals surrounding our education, employment, and self-efficacy. To learn more, click here.
