ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT - NICOLE
By Nicole

My name is Nicole aNicole - Alumni Spotlightnd I'm an Alumna of More Than Words. Before MTW, I was in DCF and struggling with school. I worked at MTW for about a year and a half and learned a lot, including communication skills, computer skills, and customer service skills. I am a junior and an honor student at Pine Manor College. I am a psychology major and hope to work for the Federal Bureau of Investigations in the Behavioral Analysis Unit as a psychologist.

The most amazing news I have is that I am now working for MTW again, but this time on staff as the Development Assistant. Some responsibilities I have as the Development Assistant are helping with youths' transitions, making important phone calls, planning events, organizing the office, and much more. This is like a dream come true! More Than Words has been a tremendous part of my life and forever will be.

TAX TALK

By: Greg

At Transitions, Betsy Sylvia came to help us file our taxes. It is very important to do your taxes on time and correctly. She walked us through the whole form and let us know what each section really meant. I found this to be very helpful because the forms can get confusing and it was my first time filing my own taxes. I want to give a huge thank you to Betsy for all of her help!

WHAT'S YOUR CREDIT SCORE?

By: Greg

 Citizen's Bank site visit

During Transitions, we went to Citizen's Bank to learn more about what they do, how they run, and what we should always know about our own finances. They told us how important it is to make sure you keep a good credit score because this shows the bank how responsible you are with your money. The manager took us on a tour of the bank and even showed us the vault, where the money is kept on high security. When hiring, the most important aspect they look for in an employee is excellent customer service. This is also something very important to us at MTW!

We want to give a huge thank you to Stephanie at Citizen's Bank for teaching us about their business, how to manage our money, and feel more confident in banking.

GET FINANCIAL HELP FOR COLLEGE

By: Katya

In transitiBrandeis site visitons, we went on a site visit to the Brandeis Univeristy Office of Student Financial Services. Nicole Bonanni, the Assistant Director of Student Services, gave us a tour of the office and talked about all the financial help they can offer students. At Brandeis, they offer guidance and counseling for need-based financial aid such as scholarships, grants, and loans. They also offer job opportunities on and off campus. I thought this was great because I didn't know that there were so many other options than just taking loans out and paying them off long after you're done with college. There are a lot of ways to help students financially while they're in school so that they can avoid being in debt in their future. We want to thank Nicole for a great, informative tour!

What is Transitions at MTW? Also known as the YOU job, Transitions is the time we devote to working on our personal goals surrounding our education, employment, and self-efficacy. To learn more, click here.

BAR MITZVAH BOOK DRIVE
By: Greg

Thank you so much to Josh for setting up a book drive that really helped our business! For his Bar Mitzvah project, Josh organized and led a book drive at his religious school. He spread the word by passing around a flyer and asking all of his Bar Mitzvah guests to bring a book with them to donate to MTW. He also made a box for tax exemption forms and advertised in his temple's bulletin. His goal was to collect 1000 books and not only has he already surpassed that goal, but he is still collecting! We want to give a huge thank you to Josh for all of his support and hard work!!

Support MTW by organizing your own book drive! Click here for more information!
Thanks for catching up on MTW! Make sure to stop by soon for a good book, a cup of coffee, and some of our great upcoming events!
