THE BUNDY FAMILY'S AMAZING DONATION
By: Leakia
MTW wants to give a H UGE thank you to the Bundy Family, the JFK Presidential Library, and Humboldt Moving Company for all of their help and support with an amazing book donation. We received over 2500 books from the McGeorge Bundy's personal connection!!
McGeorge Bundy was very important in the world of politics and education. He was the youngest-ever Dean of Harvard and served as President Kennedy's National Security Advisor. He loved to read, so of course he had a huge collection of books.
His family gave some of the books to the JFK Presidential Library and decided to donate the rest of the books to us because they wanted to make sure the books would go to good use, and they knew that MTW would provide a good home for each and every book!
Please shop online and stay tuned for a special display in our store so that you can shop for some of these great, unique books!
Once again, we want to thank the Bundy family, the JFK Library, and Humboldt for the very impressive donation. We are so grateful to be a part of Mr. Bundy's legacy! To learn more about McGeorge Bundy, click here. |

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: KRISTIN
By: Kristin
My name is Kristin and I'm an alumni of MTW. Before I came to MTW, I was in high school but didn't really care about doing well. When I started working at MTW, that definitely changed. I used to be extremely shy and refused to work upstairs and interact with customers. Over time though, I started working on the store floor more and more and ended up loving it! I learned how to provide great customer service to everyone who came in the store. I also learned what it's really like to hold a job in the real world.
I worked at MTW for over a year, graduated from high school, then moved on to jobs in retail and summer camps, and then moved on to college. I'm currently working at MTW again, but this time on staff. I was recently hired as the Online Book Coordinator, and it's my job to manage a new online antique book venture. I'm also currently studying English at Bunker Hill Community College for 2 years and then am going to transfer to a 4 year college. I love reading and writing and my goal is to become an author or editor.

EXPLORING THE WESTIN
By: Shanice
The MTW Thursday Transitions crew went on a site visit to the Westin. The Westin is a hotel chain that has over 160 hotels and resorts worldwide and is a part of the Starwood hotels and resorts. In each room at the Westin they have Heavenly Beds and Super Food Rx. The beds are great! They feel like you're on cloud 9! If you want to apply to work at the Westin, you must be at least 18 years old and have your high school diploma or GED. One thing that they look for in an interview is a unique and friendly personality. They want to hire people with flexibility and great customer service. This is definitely something we learn at MTW! Thank you to Shannon Borden for the wonderful tour, we learned a lot! THE MARVELOUS MARRIOTT By: Linda During Transitions, we went on a site visit to learn about the Courtyard Marriott. We took a tour of the hotel and had a blast. We learned that the front counter is the most important spot in the hotel because this is where customers are greeted and get their first impression of the business. If you're applying for a job at the Marriott, you don't need to have hotel experience but something that is important to them is that you have excellent customer service. I want to thank Bob Clement for a lovely time at the Courtyard Marriott! What is Transitions at MTW? Also known as the YOU job, Transitions is the time we devote to working on our personal goals surrounding our education, employment, and self-efficacy. To learn more, click here. |

BOSTON CARES ROCKS MTW!
By: Shanice
The More Than Words team would like to thank the 2 groups of Boston Cares volunteers who have taken time out of their busy schedules to help us move our business forward! They helped us with condensing basement shelves, sorting to store, and getting books ready for our second location. Having them here was a lot of fun and they helped us get so much work done! It's great knowing that we have such strong support from people in our community. Thank you again to all of the wonderful volunteers!
