Hey !

Welcome back!!  Happy New Year! Check out what's new at MTW for 2011!
THANK YOU TO THE BOSTON FOUNDATION!
By: Jorge

We want to thank The Boston Foundation for their generous grant of $150,000 over 2 years!! This support will really help us run our business and open our new location.
It will also help youth like myself by giving me a job and helping me reach my goals such as getting my GED. Thank you again to The Boston Foundation! We really appreciate it!
SHOPATHON SUCCESS!
By: Kayla
Domingo, Carlos, and Mark at Shopathon
More Than Words rocked the Shopathon!! We want to thank everyone who came out to support us! We beat our goal of $2,000 and ended the night with a grand total of $2,161!!! We drew a crowd of around 100 people, and our youth team was busy providing customers with cafe samples and MTW trivia, reading to children, and helping people find what they were looking for. The store vibe was fun and full of holiday cheer! Thanks again to everyone for supporting our business and helping us hit our goal!
VET SPOTLIGHT: VINCE
By: Vince

My name is Vince and I'm a veteran of
VinceMore Than Words. Before MTW, I was in high school, didn't know what I wanted to do with my life, and was in search of job experience. I really enjoyed my time at MTW because I got to know some great people and I learned a lot of important skills, such as how to write a resume and cover letter. I'm currently in school at Becker College in Worcester and I'm studying Business Administration.

MTW GOES ON TWO SITE VISITS TO PROMOTE SELF-EFFICACY
By: Jorge

At MTW, an important outcome for all youth is self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is when you believe in yourself and your ability to take care of yourself and act like an adult. Part of taking care of yourself is staying healthy by exercising and eating well. To learn more about this, MTW youth went on two health and wellness related site visits in December.

ENERGIZE FITNESS STUDIO
By: Domingo

We went to EMTW Youth at Energize Fitness Studionergize Fitness Studio in West Newton and met the owner, Rachel Kobey. She spoke to us about how important it is to stay in shape. We learned that there are many benefits to exercise, such as being healthy at an old age. You are also more creative and have a better memory if you keep exercise in your schedule. We got to experience the trampoline and participate as if she was our personal trainer, which was a lot of fun. We'd like to thank Rachel for teaching us about exercise. We all enjoyed ourselves and learned about healthy habits!

BRANDEIS HEALTH & WELLNESS CLINIC
By: Kayla

During Transitions, we went on a site visit to Brandeis University for a very informational lecture from Dawn Skope about health and nutrition. She discussed many different topics with us including healthy eating, breathing techniques, and the importance of good sleep. I learned that getting at least 6 hours of sleep every night is crucial for a more productive and energized day. We would like to thank Dawn for a very helpful discussion.

What is Transitions at MTW? Also known as the YOU job, transitions is the time we devote to working on our personal goals surrounding our education, employment, and self-efficacy. To learn more, click here.
