Marking Lifecycle Events
Friends, this is an invitation to keep Leyv Ha-Ir close in your thoughts when you have any occasion to remember someone with a card. Make a donation to your cherished congregation and honor someone you care about at the same time. It might be a note of sympathy, a message of congratulations, a shout-out on a happy occasion. Let me know, and I will gladly send along either one of Marcy Fleet's lovely art cards created for this use, or one I will customize based on your suggestions. I will also try to compose a note that carries your thought to the recipient. Please direct checks to our PO Box 15836, Philadelphia PA 19103 and details to me. You can reach me at suefrank@aol.com.

Dear Friends of Leyv Ha-Ir~Heart of the City,
Our annual meeting is on June 12th at the Penn Center House. Brunch starts at 10:30 AM. The meeting starts at 11:00AM. This meeting will be my last function as President. I have served in this capacity November 2005. The best way to honor my service is to attend this meeting, with your heart full of willingness to serve this community. In lieu of that willingness, donations to our general fund are happily accepted.

Rabbi's Message |
|
Dear Chevre,
I know there is massive curiosity about what book we will all be reading for our One Book, One Congregation project that is launched every year at our Annual Meeting. You couldn't possibly guess what the book will be this year but I will give you a few hints: it is by a female Reform Rabbi, it is likely to become a classic as important as When Bad Things Happen to Good People. It deals with issues of coping with unfairness, loss and the resulting suffering. It's a beautiful, short book.
Come to the Annual Meeting to take a guess about the title of the book and hear the secret revealed, come to the Annual Meeting to participate in your congregation's decision-making for next year, come to the Annual Meeting to be with friends for brunch, come to the Annual Meeting to honor Michael Meketon who has been our president for five years, come to the Annual Meeting!
Speaking of books, our Tikkun Olam/Repair of the World committee asks each of us to bring to our Shavuot service a book to donate to prisoners through the terrific program Books Thru Bars. They especially need dictionaries and books in Spanish. As we celebrate the receiving of Torah~the value of learning~let's share the wealth.
Hope to see each one of you soon,
Rabbi Julie
