Familiar tunes with experimental flair...

The February 24th Lounge Series performance featured San Diego Music Award nominee Tokeli and her entourage of talented musicians. Channeling Bebel Gilberto's sweet and raspy vocals and then moving into soprano and atonal playfulness, Tokeli's fluent Portuguese vocals provided a quiet intensity and unpredictability that invited travelers to relax and ponder what would happen next. 

With Peter August on alto sax, Nathan Jarrell on guitar, Harley Magsino on bass and Fernando Gomez on drums, the evening's varied performance styles ranged from nuances of bebop to funk to traditional bossa nova. Together, each performer contributed to an evening of familiar tunes with a spunky, upbeat and experimental flair.
