Terminal Development Program
Environmental Impact Report & Airport Master Plan approved for immediate-term improvements to SDIA |
|

On May 1, 2008, the Board of the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority certified the Environmental Impact Report (EIR) and adopted an Airport Master Plan for immediate-term Terminal Development Program improvements at San Diego International Airport.
The Terminal Development Program includes 10 new gates at Terminal 2 West (shown in rendering above), additional room for aircraft, as well as parking and roadway improvements. All are designed to allow the airport to accomodate projected rising passenger volumes in the immediate term.
Certification of the EIR and adoption of the Airport Master Plan are initial steps; before construction can begin on any of the improvements, further federal environmental review, a finance plan, design/construction approval and Board approval of specific projects are required.

Long-Term
Destination Lindbergh Breakthrough multi-agency effort takes shape to plan Airport's ultimate build-out |
|
Also on May 1, 2008, the Airport Authority Board gave final approval to a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Airport Authority, the City of San Diego and the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG). The MOA launches a new kind of long-range planning for San Diego International Airport: a single, multi-agency planning effort called Destination Lindbergh: The Ultimate Build-Out.
Destination Lindbergh is a breakthrough alliance that will also include stakeholders from aviation, transit, transportation and the military. Ultimately, a region-wide civic dialogue will be used to develop a feasible, visionary concept for Lindbergh Field's ultimate build-out.
By February 2009, this process will develop a concept that addresses transportation linkages, sustainability, economic benefit and community interests.
Key policy direction for Destination Lindbergh will be set by an Ad Hoc Airport Regional Policy Committee - chaired by San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders with Board-level representatives from:
- Airport Authority
- SANDAG
- Port of San Diego
- City of San Diego
- County of San Diego
- Metropolitan Transit System
- North County Transit District
Information regarding upcoming public meetings of this committee will be posted here. Stay tuned for further news about Destination Lindbergh. |
