Top Tips for Smooth Sailing Through the Airport |
The travel season leading up to Christmas and continuing through New Year's Day is traditionally one of the busiest and most hectic of the year. If your holiday plans involve a trip to the airport, remember to give yourself plenty of time to get to your flight on time: it is recommended that you get to the airport two hours prior to a domestic flight departure, and three hours prior to an international flight departure. If severe weather affects any leg of your journey, it's always a good idea to contact your airline for latest schedule information. Being up to speed on the latest security rules and tips from the TSA will help get you through the airport faster. And click here for the latest flight arrival and departure information for SDIA.

Optimizing Lindbergh Field: Public comment period for Airport Master Plan draft EIR extended to February 4, 2008 |
|
Members of the public now have until February 4, 2008, to provide comments on the draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for proposed near-term Airport Master Plan improvements to meet current passenger demand at SDIA. Proposals include a ten-gate build-out of Terminal 2; a dual-level roadway in front of Terminal 2; and various parking, roadway and airfield improvements. The Airport Authority extended the public comment period in order to give agencies, residents and other interested parties more time to submit comments. The EIR informs the public about possible impacts to the environment and seeks comments on alternatives to reduce impacts associated with improvements to the airport. The EIR, and more inforation about the Airport Master Plan, are available at www.sanplan.com. |

FREE parking at the Airport? Cell Phone Lot adds convenient new amenities |
Those coming to SDIA to pick up arriving passengers can take advantage of a feature not found at most other major airports -- a Cell Phone Lot, located on Harbor Drive just before the Commuter Terminal. The Cell Phone Lot provides a place to park for free for up to 60 minutes. When that call from an arriving passenger comes through, it's a quick zip to the terminal for a curb-side pick-up. Now, the Airport Authority has added some amenities to the convenience: vending machines and an electronic Flight Information Display, so you can easily track when your arriving passenger is scheduled to land. For more information and a map of where the Cell Phone Lot is located, click here... |
| Hip Guitars & Exquisite Dolls |
|
Hip guitars from El Cajon's own Taylor Guitar Company (first floor, Commuter Terminal) and exquisitely handcrafted dolls from San Diego's Sister City of Yokohama, Japan (Terminal 2, across from Gate 33), are making a splash in two new exhibits at SDIA this holiday season. Part of the Airport Authority's Cultural & Performing Arts Program, the unique exhibits are garnering positive reviews from passengers and other airport visitors. They will run through the end of January 2008.

See SDIA Behind the Scenes |
Ever wonder why endangered Least Tern seabirds make their nests on an airfield? Or where the famous Spirit of St. Louis airplane was built? What are "spooky eyes" or a "blast fence" for? Find all this out, and much more, thanks to new public tours of SDIA offered by the Airport Authority. From the terminals to the tarmac, the new tours offer an inside look at the airport, airfield and where proposed near-term improvements are planned to optimize SDIA through 2015. The bus tour starts at the Commuter Terminal and continues with a walking tour through Terminals 1 and 2, covering public art and an animal rest area. Then, participants board a bus for a driving tour of the entire runway, with a look at the airport's elaborate baggage handling system; security, control tower and cargo facilities; Least Terns habitat; and other airfield highlights. To make a tour reservation online, visit www.sanplan.com and click "Get Involved," or call 619-400-2880. |

| Your Airport Authority |
 |
The San Diego County Regional Airport Authority was established by state law in 2003 to operate SDIA and address the region's long-term air transportation needs. The Airport Authority is governed by a nine-member appointed Board representing all areas of the County. SDIA - funded through user fees and not local taxes - served some 17.5 million passengers in 2006. For more information, visit www.san.org. | |
