This Week

Tuesday, August 9, 12pm Book Talk: "It Hasteth Away" An Island Wife and Her Soldier Husband Speaker: Randy Purinton, Author Join us to hear the true story behind the marriage of two young Maine coast islanders separated by the Civil War. Sabrina and Wesley Brown only lived together for one month before Wesley enlisted and left his wife and home on Islesboro. This new book, based on letters between the couple (1858-1862), documents their effort to maintain their marriage through the mail. The couple's correspondence is now part of the collections of the Islesboro Historical Society. |
